Cyber 9/12 Alumni highlight! ?? ?? #Cyber912 alum Sheyfer Bilbao recently spoke on a panel about her experience representing Panama with her team, PanGPT, at the 2023 Santo Domingo, DR Cyber 9/12 Strategy Challenge. Sheyfer's experience highlights the importance of creating learning opportunities for students that challenges them on the policy and strategy considerations of cybersecurity. ?? ?? Mythical Beasts in the media! ?? ?? Did you know that in Italy, the government can rent spyware for as little as €150 a day? ?? Cyber Statecraft Initiative Jen Roberts recently was quoted in a piece in The Record from Recorded Future News by Suzanne Marie Smalley which digs into the Italian market for spyware. In the article, Roberts says "the Italian market also is the longest running continuous spyware ecosystem the Atlantic Council found in the 42 countries which they studied," referencing CSI's report released earlier this fall, "Mythical Beasts and Where to Find Them: Mapping the Global Spyware Market and its Threats to National Security and Human Rights". The Mythical Beasts ?? report surveyed the spyware market from 1992-2023, of which RCS Labs was first on the scene in Italy. In our latest ?? blogpost, Alphaeus Hanson examines the role of historical cyber incident data in improving cyber insurance premiums.? The cyber insurance market can increase its efficiency and efficacy with more accurate cyber insurance premiums. Historical cyber incident data, which informs the risk models that inform cyber insurance premiums, is insufficient to accurately write cyber insurance and manage risk. The private sector should aggregate historical cyber incident data so that insurers can inform their risk models and in turn, more accurately price cyber insurance premiums. Cyber insurance can serve as a ?? vehicle ?? to improve cybersecurity when insurers hold customers to a minimum standard of cybersecurity by requiring that potential claimants have and maintain appropriate cyber hygiene or that they implement certain cyber security practices.?
