Applications Open: Join Our Teenager Summer Internship Program! Cyber For Youth is excited to announce our Summer Internship Program for 2025! We're looking for passionate students in rising grades 10-12 to help us create a safer digital world. Why Us? - Stand Out: This competitive internship is a chance for teenagers to lead in a unique cause where teens speak out on real issues they face online daily. - Earn Significant Volunteer Hours: Gain over 40+ hours just by participating. - Develop Leadership Skills: Gain skills in online safety, research, digital marketing, communication, and leadership. - Collaboration: Learn how to work with motivated peers in a dynamic, supportive setting. What Will You Do? 1. Research & Writing: Create workshops and blogs focused on online safety, published on the C4Y website. 2. Communications: Engage in speaking roles during workshops for students and parents and facilitate outreach outside of our initiative. 3. Marketing: Manage our social media presence and help with various marketing initiatives. Key Dates: Applications Due: April 2, 2025 Internship Sessions: August 4-8 & August 11-15, 2025

Is TikTok Really Getting Banned? Here's What You Should Know: The U.S. government is considering a nationwide ban on TikTok, causing widespread concern among users. The core issue centers around TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, based in China. Officials fear that ByteDance could potentially share sensitive user data with the Chinese government, raising concerns about surveillance and data security. On top of that, there are fears that TikTok’s algorithm could spread misinformation or even propaganda. Despite TikTok consistently denying these allegations, the U.S. government remains skeptical. In April 2024, Congress passed legislation requiring ByteDance to sell TikTok to a U.S.-approved company within nine months. With the deadline set for January 19, ByteDance has yet to secure a sale. If this deadline is not met, TikTok will be removed from all U.S. platforms. Most Supreme Court justices favor enforcing the removal. What About Trump's Involvement? While former President Trump opposes the ban, he is not scheduled to take office until January 20—one day after the current deadline. Until then, the matter remains in the hands of the current administration and the courts. What Could This Mean for Users? TikTok is unlikely to vanish from devices immediately. However, platforms like Apple and Google would be required to remove it from their app stores. As a result, the app would likely stop receiving updates and gradually become less functional and unusable. Can a VPN Help? Some users are considering VPNs to bypass restrictions. While this may offer temporary access, it is not a sustainable solution and could present challenges with updates or compliance with regulations.

We are excited to announce that we held our very first workshop in Monta Vista High School for 400 ninth graders! Our Cyber For Youth team presented key online safety topics, focusing on cyberbullying and digital footprints. Students participated in discussions and activities, including the Digital Footprint Case Box. In this activity, students analyzed a fictional character’s digital footprint and created a plan to improve the character’s online presence. This activity allowed students to reflect on the long-term impact of their own digital actions. A huge thank you to everyone who supported us on this journey, those who helped organize and facilitate the workshop, and the incredible 9th graders who made it such a fun experience! We’re so grateful for your continued support and can’t wait to host more events like this in the future. In just a few months, we’ve been fortunate to see our online safety initiative, Cyber For Youth, grow and thrive! But, none of this progress would have been possible without our incredible team members. That being said, we are excited to announce that we are opening up our second round of member applications! We're looking for high schoolers to join Cyber For Youth—a teen-led initiative aimed at educating parents and students about the importance of online security. Cyber For Youth currently consists of four teams: Communications, Research/Writing, Marketing, and Event Coordination. Why Join? Volunteer Hours: Stand out in college applications through unique volunteer work and gaining volunteer hours. Make a Difference: Be part of a team that's working to shape the future of online safety.
