Autism: Raising Awareness at the Capitol Date: April 28, 2025 Location: State Capitol, 210 Capitol Avenue, Hartford, CT Join us for Autism: Raising Awareness at the Capitol, this event aims to raise awareness, enhance understanding, and address challenges faced by the autism community while advocating for legislative action and supportive policies. Event Schedule 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM | Program (Room 310) The program will feature insights from medical professionals, personal stories from individuals with autism and parent advocates, and discussions with legislators on current legislative efforts supporting the autism community. 12:00 PM – 2:30 PM | Information & Resource Tables Organizations from across the state will participate by sharing information about the resources and services they provide to the autism community. Rashida Richardson, a Distinguished Scholar of Technology and Policy at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, a Senior AI Policy Expert in the Responsible AI Practice Group of the Institute of Experiential AI at Northeastern University, and a Senior Counsel, Artificial Intelligence at Mastercard. A nationally recognized expert in the civil rights and social implications of artificial intelligence and legal practitioner of emerging technology policy issues. She has previously served as an Attorney Advisor to the Chair of the Federal Trade Commission and as a Senior Policy Advisor for Data and Democracy at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy in the Biden Administration. Rashida has worked on a range of civil rights and technology policy issues at the German Marshall Fund, Rutgers Law School, AI Now Institute, the American Civil Liberties Union of New York (NYCLU), and the Center for HIV Law and Policy. Her work has been featured in the Emmy-Award Winning Documentary, The Social Dilemma, and in major publications like the New York Times, Wired, MIT Technology Review, and NPR (national and local member stations). She received her BA with honors in the College of Social Studies at Wesleyan University and her JD from Northeastern University School of Law. As a prominent leader in the Civil Rights Movement and longtime president of the National Council of Negro Women, she tirelessly advocated for the rights of Black women, championing issues like education, employment, and voting rights. Height played a crucial role in organizing the 1963 March on Washington and worked alongside leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Fannie Lou Hamer.
