Many thanks to the speakers and attendees who made today’s State of the Community special!
Following are just a few of the inspiring efforts underway for the Charlottesville, Va area that were highlighted at the “State of the Community”. It’s exciting to see the vision and collaboration unfolding in our area, and grateful to be part of it. Thank you Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce for hosting at Piedmont Virginia Community College. The event was moderated by Mariane Asad Doyle, Ph.D. who in addition to her involvement with the Chamber leads the Center for Nonprofit Excellence - Virginia. Thought-provoking insights by the remarkable leaders in our community: Hamilton Lombard with Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service at the University of Virginia shed light on the demographic and income shifts shaping our community, highlighting the continued rise of remote work (with 1 in 5 workers now remote). He reminded us of an important decision we face: should we focus on improving housing for middle/lower-middle income families, or invest in enhancing our transportation network to better support those living outside the area? Antwon Brinson with Culinary Concepts AB LLC emphasized the power of building relationships in unexpected places and stepping outside our comfort zones to make meaningful connections. It’s a crucial reminder that growth often happens when we embrace discomfort. Chief Executive, Jeff Richardson with Albemarle County highlighted the significant infrastructure investments in the county aimed at boosting our economic vitality and quality of life. His call to action? Stay curious—a mantra that is key to serving our community with excellence. City Manager, Samuel Sanders, Jr with City of Charlottesville spoke to the city’s unique opportunities in fostering partnerships that truly benefit the community, noting the upcoming 50th anniversary of the Downtown Pedestrian Mall and 250 years of our nation’s constitution. Wonderful event enabled through the tireless efforts of Andrea D. Copeland, IOM, CCM #Community #Leadership #EconomicGrowth #Partnerships #Curiosity #LocalImpact #FutureOfWork #economicdevelopment #economics #housing #transportation #relationships #infrastructure #investments
