I helped with copy for this series of retro recruitment marketing ads, but they were not intended for today's Truck Drivers at all. We designed this hoaky series and carefully placed the content in trade pubs to face FORMER DRIVERS and "recruit" them back into their heyday when Convoy, BJ and the Bear, and the 1970s trucking culture was cool and respected. (I was there too). No, we don't want the old ones to get back in the truck (although I bet many of them still have the CDL and would LOVE to get out of the office on a Thursday afternoon). These experienced old Truckers are still working for us as CEOs and VPs of Logistics, Directors of Maintenance, Health and Safety Experts, and DOT Consultants. Anybody wanna go back to the old days? This week our Technicians took another crucial step in their professional development. On November 2nd in the Gilmer, Texas Terminal Training Center, all Mechanics company-wide gathered for an Antilock Brake Summit. The day's goal was to fine-tune our shop personnel's skills in troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairing more complex components than ever before. Executive VP of Safety & Personnel Casey Driggers said: "Today we had Bendix representatives come in and assist our mechanic techs in properly diagnosing and fixing ABS problems. Another way to properly assist the Drivers while on the road. Proficiency training is not only required for our Drivers, but our entire organization and it is how we stay one step ahead." #benchmark #itsallaboutthepeople #TheCustomWay

“Nothing was more important than our employees,” Brent Bergevin, VP of Transportation at Love's Travel Stops sounds a lot like Custom Commodities Transport Execs. Love's founder Tom Love died earlier this year at age 85, just before his private fleet garnered a second NTTC North American Safety Championship. This is the same NTTC Safety Contest in which Custom Commodities Transport took 2nd place last year and the Championship that we're gunning to WIN this year. Loves/Gemini is in a different competition class due to its size and being a private fleet, but the ideas here are the precise direction that we are headed. “People ask me, ‘Who is your Safety Director?’ And the beautiful thing is I’ve got 1,700 of them” Bergevin said. We've all heard Custom's Executive VP of Safety Casey Driggers say, "You are the Captain of your ship." In fact, on Friday's WorkHound Broadcast Message, Driggers said, "Ultimately, it’s up to you to exercise your judgment in order to stay safe while driving." Love’s is the one remaining large travel center operator that is still family-owned, and in a world being eaten up by Goliath-like corporations, it's certainly nice to work for a family you know. Laura Perrotta, President of American Truck Dealers(ATD), a super high energy rep of our industry who spends much if her time lobbying capital hill in Washington DC. And Rebecca Brewster, COO if ATRI shared her nonprofit research group’s findings and projects. We’re learning about workforce demographics, making connections, and sharing ideas on electric vehicles, Driver safety, women joining the industry, and more.
