    LLMs vs SLMs: which one to choose? Entrepreneurs are always tempted to aim for the most powerful AI model. But they are missing out, that perhaps choosing something lighter weight that is more accessible and cost-efficient will meet their needs and save their resources. Atalia Horenshtien, our Head of AI practice for North America, shared with Information Week, how to choose the right AI model for your company: ??“Small Language Models (SLMs) and Large Language Models (LLMs) are both AI-based models, but they serve different purposes. SLMs are compact models, efficient, and tailored for specific tasks and domains. LLMs are massive models that require significant resources. They shine in more complex scenarios and fit general and versatile cases. Some popular SLMs include Mistral 7B, LLaMa 3, Phi 3, and Gemma, while top LLMs are GPT-4, Claud 3.5, Falcon, Gemini, and Command R. How do you choose? Go with SLMs when you need speed, cost efficiency, or a specific task. Go with LLMs when tasks demand depth, high accuracy, nuance, or cross-domain knowledge. Working with different industries, here are some examples we see: ??In manufacturing, SLMs can predict equipment failures, while LLMs provide real-time insights from IoT data. ??In retail, SLMs personalize recommendations; LLMs power virtual shopping assistants. ??In healthcare, SLMs classify records, while LLMs summarize medical research for clinicians.
