For critical environments like labs, surgical suites and clean rooms, CMS chooses air valves and integrated room controllers from Critical Room Control. Aptly named, CRC offers extremely precise airflow and pressurization control. Using venturi technology, their systems measure the true airflow. Plus, the user-friendly controls provide a clear visual representation of room pressure conditions and other key data in real time. Keeping students comfortable keeps them focused on their studies, so when we were tasked with help cooling Tacoma Community College's Center for Innovative Learning and Engagement, we got to work. The specific ask from engineers was to identify a solution for a high-efficiency heat recovery unit that could do 100+ tons of cooling in a single unit. Along with BCE, a Gannett Fleming TranSystems Company and Phoenix Mechanical, Inc., CMS deployed Bousquet Technologies Superblock technology that recovers 90%+ sensible recovery via an air-to-air HX. For heating and cooling, we brought in Samsung HVAC America VRF modules tied to a large refrigerant coil in the unit, with factory installed coil kits. Three separate 34T variable speed VRF Heat Pumps feed a 3-circuit intertwined refrigerant coil, providing efficient cooling and heating, and great turndown. Plus, we incorporated SecureAire, LLC electrostatic filtration to help combat wildfire smoke, while saving airside pressure drop on the fans. Secureaire filters last roughly 3x longer than traditional carbon filters, so our estimation showed the filter return-on-investment was less than 1 year, saving the school from costly carbon filter changeouts throughout the building lifecycle. Efficient heating & cooling and cleaner air for students is a huge win for all! #CommercialHVAC #CustomMechanicalSolutions #SamsungHVAC

Get to know the CMS team — Team Lead Nikki Jackson Joining us seven years ago, Nikki made a remarkable leap from her previous career as a Paralegal to explore new opportunities here at CMS. The culture and company of our team is what drew her in. Before her first day, she was welcomed at an all-company event, starting her journey playing laser tag with our team. “Over the last seven years, I’ve seen many employees have their first day at a company event like that, which always makes me smile.” Since her start at the front desk, Nikki has embraced every challenge and opportunity that came her way. “I started at the front desk assisting Jen Hickman with parts. Since then, I’ve been a Project Administrator, Project Manager, Senior Project Manager and now Team Lead.” Nikki enjoys the nature of her current role, where she balances managing complex projects while leading a fantastic team. “It’s been fun getting to grow with this team,” she shares. “We thrive off helping each other and love making lists—there’s nothing quite like the satisfaction of checking things off!” One key lesson she has learned in her journey as a Project Manager is to “never be afraid to ask questions and when in doubt, go back to the basics.” We’re so thankful to have had Nikki on our team for the past seven years, and we can’t wait to see how she continues to shine at CMS! #CustomMechanicalSolutions #CommercialHVAC #EmployeeSpotlight

Additional capacity for growing demand! The University of Washington needed help future-proofing their systems at the West Campus Central Utility Plant. CMS is stepping up and providing an additional 3,000 tons of chiller capacity using YORK Commercial Solutions YK centrifugal chillers and an additional Marley cooling tower to match the UW’s existing equipment. We're looking forward to the installation later this year, as the new equipment will bring their total chilled water capacity from 4,500 to 7,000 tons! Integral to this project was Marley's engineering skill, used to design a lower-level service platform for the new cooling tower, while also manufacturing matching platforms for UW's existing towers. Currently, servicing the towers annual is cumbersome. With the new changes, maintenance teams will be able to maintain each cooling tower without needing temporary ladders or scaffolding. Thanks to the UW for their continued partnership, and to our manufacturing partners who helped produce great results for the UW campus! #CustomMechanicalSolutions #CommercialHVAC #UniversityofWashington
