?? We are excited to share that Climate Impact X has entered into an agreement with CUSIP Global Services (CGS) to bring its unique security identifiers—CUSIPs—for carbon credits to CIX Intelligence. A CUSIP is a nine-character, alphanumeric security identifier for issuers and their financial instruments used throughout the US and Canada. Widely recognised as a trusted standard in the financial markets, CUSIPs are a foundational building block that allow for efficient trading, clearing and settlement. In 2023, CGS, working with carbon ratings agency BeZero Carbon, developed unique identifiers for carbon credits, bringing a critical level of transparency and efficiency to the voluntary carbon market (#VCM). To date, over 20,000 individual CUSIPs have been assigned to VCM projects at a vintage level, and these CUSIP numbers are available for all projects listed on the major registries globally, with mapping to individual registry identifiers. By incorporating these CUSIPs for carbon credits into the CIX VCM Trade database, we are helping to improve the operation of the VCM and allowing market participants to access greater efficiency in issuance, retirements, trading, clearing and settlement processes. The CIX VCM Trade Database was launched in July 2024 to help reduce information asymmetry and empower market participants to make confident carbon trading and purchase decisions. Updated daily, it covers thousands of granular price points from across the spot market and from CIX proprietary trading venues, offering unparalleled visibility into trading activity, liquidity patterns and project-level price dynamics.
