As I read this article (shared with me), I noted how very insightful it was. Then I looked at the author(s) and noticed Scott Ptacek as the lead. Confirmed why I was so impressed.

Delivering Accurate Provider Data. To Everyone. All the Time.
关于我们
Provider data management has been a fragmented undertaking, utilizing multiple vendors engaged by various operational areas within a health plan. This approach results in high data error rates, unnecessary costs, lost revenue, and heavy administrative burden. Curatus is a technology company that offers full-service provider data curation, enrichment, management, and governance to the Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, and commercial payer markets. Our ProviderLenz platform powers the automated dissemination of enriched provider data in real-time and behind-the-scenes for ALL payer use cases based on a single ‘source of truth’ Master Provider Index. This means that all operational processes within a payer’s organization are always utilizing the same and most up-to-date provider data available. All this is achieved with a single vendor and with no changes to a payer’s current IT infrastructure. For more information, please visit Curatus.com.

Hard to argue with Centene's decision to exit these 6 states (AL, MA, NH, NM, RI, and VT). The 37k beneficiaries will have good options.

A care navigation program to help members access behavioral health providers is a smart idea. Similar to a broader program Presbyterian Health Plan has had in place for years in AQB. Smart!

CA Assembly Bill 236 is a bad idea. There are always tough examples of bad experiences caused by bad provider data. Yet another penalty on payers won't solve the problem, but will certainly increase costs and therefore premiums. There's a better way.

Some states' provider data is better than others. Plenty of room for improvement.

There's a lot to digest in this article, but there are a few items that really stand out. While a lot of attention has been paid to improving the accuracy of provider directories throughout the industry, many still have a lot of work to do. Specifically this article points out the challenges our veterans face finding care that is much needed and deserved. With the Government Accountability Office estimated that 85% of listings in Tricare East Region and 79% in Tricare West Region had trouble with the location, gender of the provider, specialty or subspecialty description, or phone and fax numbers. We have to do better for this valuable and vulnerable group. Between the lack of providers overall, the surge in demand for mental health services in general and particularly with our veterans, and the inaccurate information found in the directories there is a lot of work to be done. Reach out to us if you are interested in learning about the things we are doing to help improve the accuracy of provider data for our clients.
