关于我们

CUNY Tutor Corps brings current CUNY students who are studying math, computer science, science, and education into NYC public middle and high schools to provide one-on-one and small group instruction and support classroom teachers. We are looking for college students who want to improve math and science education, inspire young people to pursue careers in STEM and investigate public school teaching as a possible career choice. We pay tutors $17 per hour to spend approximately 12 hours per week in math and computer science classrooms. The program’s aim is to reduce barriers to STEM academic and professional achievement and to improve the confidence, academic performance, and college and career readiness of CUNY Tutors and NYC DOE students. Through our mission, we actively raise our awareness of the manifestations of racism and privilege in our own lives, in the systems we create and support, and in our culture. We work as a team to dismantle and reorganize the systems that support racism and privilege. As such, we provide our tutors with opportunities to engage in dialogues centered around these themes, and how they affect their lives. We additionally support our tutors with workshops focused on pedagogy and career development to further build their professional skillset.
