It was another inspiring year at the Minnesota Association of School Administrators (MASA) Fall Conference. Cuningham proudly presented Mahtomedi Public Schools Director of Teaching and Learning Jennifer Reichel Ed.D. with the Richard R. Green Scholarship. Her research, “Don’t Waste My Time: Characteristics of Professional Development that Mid-Career Teachers Say They Need,” explores the unique needs of mid-career educators and introduces the Mid-Career Professional Development Design framework to enhance teacher engagement and growth. Additionally, Cuningham’s Heidi Neumueller, AIA, LEED AP and Jennifer Garman, facilitated their second annual workshop with the scholars focused on how to leverage post-occupancy evaluations as a tool to measure space, learning, and well-being. Cuningham is excited to continue working with this group, developing and implementing research frameworks that can elevate the learning experience. Since its inception in 2006, Cuningham has been honored to sponsor the Richard R. Green Scholarship Program, which recognizes and supports excellence in practice-based research by Minnesota school leaders. Congratulations to Saint Paul Public Schools on the grand re-opening of the American Indian Magnet School, a PreK-8 school with a teaching approach rooted in American Indian culture, traditions, values, history, and art. ? Cuningham’s remodel and addition helps American Indian Magnet School advance its pedagogical mission while also aligning the facility with a district-wide commitment to flexible and culturally-aware 21st Century learning environments. ? Central to American Indian Magnet School’s design is its ability to function as a community gathering space. The school’s library, now reimagined as a long house, is the new cultural heart of the space and the remodel emphasizes open, collaborative areas and flexible ?learning spaces that promote personal connections. Located near the culturally-significant Mounds Park and Mississippi River, the school also strengthens connections between these two landscapes for local Native American communities. ? We were honored to attend the groundbreaking for Dignity Health California's new Sierra Pacific Regional Cancer Center in Redding, California. ? This new, free-standing cancer treatment center will expand access to oncology services and give patients a holistic approach to cancer care, with integrative radiation therapies, counseling, infusion treatment, and support groups to address not only the physical but also the emotional and psychological aspects of their treatment journey. ? The state-of-the-art facilities will boast advanced diagnostic capabilities, including PET-CT, MRI, CT mammography, and ultrasound. The center will also feature two linear accelerators, with visual access to natural daylight and a sense of the outdoors thus reducing anxiety and increasing patient comfort. Designers also located infusion bays - designed with strategically placed solar tubes that allow daylight into the space - providing views of the Sacramento River and surrounding mountains, creating a more calming environment to receive care. ? Scheduled for completion in 2026, the new cancer center will be more than a medical facility; it will be a sanctuary of hope, healing, and compassion for those facing the challenges of cancer. A 14-acre regenerative campus in the middle of Northeast Minneapolis is officially underway. ? We are excited that work on the historic Northrup King Building complex has begun. Through collaboration with non-profit developer Artspace Projects, Inc., Cuningham is helping preserve and develop affordable housing units within the Northrup King Building, a cornerstone of the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District. ? A longtime home to artist studios and other small, local businesses, the new development will preserve studios for the artists already working in the campus and create housing out of unused portions of the buildings. With a focus on regenerative landscape strategies, such as innovative stormwater management, xeriscaping, rain gardens, and habitat restoration, the project will also restore and preserve the site’s ecological impact on the surrounding area. ? Littleton Public Schools' Explorative Pathways for Innovative Careers (EPIC) Campus has won a ASLA Colorado Merit Award. Given out during the organization’s Annual Awards Event and Celebration, the Merit Award honors excellence in the practice of landscape architecture, and is awarded to projects that demonstrate “outstanding accomplishments in the profession.” ? Adapted from the site of a former car dealership, EPIC Campus is a beacon for hands-on learning in a state-of-the-art environment. Central to this transformation is the Pathways Plaza, a campus courtyard that doubles as a teaching tool for students to study water conservation, stormwater management, and flow dynamics. Students can also study the elements of the local ecosystem thanks to the landscape design's focus on climate sensitive, drought-tolerant, and native plant species. ? Our team traveled to Virginia, Minnesota yesterday to celebrate the grand opening of North Star Elementary, the third and final of Rock Ridge Public Schools’ new learning environments. ? Sited on a large city block that formerly housed the district's Roosevelt Elementary and Virginia High School, North Star Elementary reclaims greenspace for play and gathering and fosters a connection between outdoor and indoor learning environments. A playground, sport courts, natural play areas, sliding hill, and large plaza create a new community asset in the heart of Virginia. ? Inside, learning is on display with maker, art, and music labs, and upper-level learning spaces are connected with an indoor slide, promoting movement and play. On the school’s second floor, students can extend their learning outdoors onto a rooftop learning patio. ? National engineering firm Woodard & Curran is setting the standard for regenerative office design with its new office in Portland, Maine. Located on the city’s waterfront, the workplace adheres to three core principles: designing out waste and pollution, keeping products and materials in circulation, and regenerating nature. Working closely with workplace consultant Lisa Whited and Epicycled, Cuningham embraced circular economy principles in the programing and design process, with the ultimate goal of prioritizing future flexibility and minimizing future waste. We’re excited to be celebrating the grand opening for phase 1 of Saturday Properties’ Revelry, a new, 420+ unit luxury apartment community in Madison, Wisconsin. ?
