Serving the people of Cumberland County, Pennsylvania since 1750.

关于我们

Cumberland County Government exists to serve its residents and provide the most livable community with the most efficient and effective public services in Pennsylvania. Cumberland County is a county located in South Central Pennsylvania that was formed January 27, 1750 from Lancaster county. Named for Cumberland County in England, it originally extended to Pennsylvania's western limits. Crossed by major roads, the county had a key role in westward migration and continues to be a vital hub for transportation. Currently, the county lies within the Cumberland Valley adjoining to the Susquehanna River at its eastern border. With a population of just over 250,000 people based on the 2017 Pennsylvania State Data Center report, it is the fastest growing county within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The county houses six higher education institutions, eight public libraries, three hospitals, two military operations, and much more. These all fall within one of the 33 local municipalities in the 555 square miles that makes up Cumberland County. • Honoring the trailblazing women of Cumberland County this Women's History Month! This March, we honor the many remarkable women who have shaped our community and beyond. From the battlefield to the bench, their legacies continue to inspire us. Judge Sylvia H. Rambo – A legal trailblazer, Judge Rambo was the first woman to serve as Cumberland County’s chief public defender, chief judge of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of PA, and the first to have a federal courthouse named after her in the state. Her dedication to justice paved the way for women in law and public service. Molly Pitcher – A Revolutionary War heroine, Molly Pitcher bravely stepped in during the Battle of Monmouth, taking her husband's place at the cannon. A symbol of courage and resilience, her story continues to inspire generations, embodying the strength of women in American history. Rosemarie Peiffer – Elected in 1979, Rosemarie Peiffer was Cumberland County’s first female commissioner. Overcoming a difficult upbringing, she dedicated herself to public service, fighting for agriculture, land preservation and conservation. Guided by her belief in doing what was right and moral, she left a lasting impact on the county. These women remind us that bravery, leadership, and perseverance know no bounds. #WomensHistoryMonth
