Thank you for your hospitality!
I couldn't love this article more. Thanks to Culture Travels Magazine for this heartful account of some of RVA's dining gems: "Each stop was more than just a culinary experience. There was an intentional connection to the past and a celebration of Black culture and family legacy within each place. For African Americans with a passion for travel, the city offers a unique opportunity to connect with our heritage, support Black-owned businesses, and immerse ourselves in the deliciousness of a thriving culinary community." Thanks to Kelli Lemon/AC/VCU, Rabia Kamara, Lester Johnson and Trey Owens for welcoming the Culture Travels crew and to Carla Murray, Sarah Beth C. and Alexandria Eady for facilitating their visit. #visitrichmondva #visitblkrva #blkrva

What do Black men need? According to CJ Goulding, the founder of Boyz N The Wood, an outdoor retreat organization, the answer is rest, brotherhood, healing, and nature. Last year, CJ and his team launched this program to provide Black men the space and relationships they need for rest, healing, and brotherhood. Read below to see how they took 15 men paddling through the Everglades in Florida. #travel #outdoors

Have you ever been accused of OVERtipping when you travel? Apparently, it’s a real thing! During an editorial meeting last week, one of our team members shared a crazy story about tipping in other countries, specifically developing countries, that led to a long debate on how travelers and influencers overtipping can actually be a bad thing. Here’s what happened: During a trip to #ghana, one of our writers tipped their waiter $10 US dollars which was about 200 Ghanaian Cedi at the time. They did this for three straight nights until a local told them they shouldn’t overtip like that because: 1) Many of the locals were not accustomed to managing that type of money leading to bad spending habits 2) It’s not sustainable. OVERtipping leads to increased prices at local markets, shops, etc and people can’t afford these prices once those tourism dollars are gone. 3) The local community will come to think all travelers should leave large tips (this was a surprising add). We’ve been going back and forth for days about the tipping etiquette when traveling. Us Americans are kind of programmed to tip, but this practice doesn’t exist in every country. In fact, in some it’s illegal! (check the slides) Do you tip when you travel? 15%? 20%? #tipping #travel #culturetravels?#blacktravel #travelbehavior https://lnkd.in/gjVBk5H6

Did you know that Rosa Parks has a seat dedicated to her on every bus in San Antonio? She actually visited the city before she passed to join the MLK March (San Antonio us know to have the largest in the world). Keep reading to learn why I’m sharing this. Every day, we get DMs from ambitious people asking us one of three questions: 1. How do you find investors for your brand? 2. Can you share tips on how to acquire sponsors? 3. Any advice on how to monetize my brand? With everyone, the first thing we say is: start local. Do not overlook your local community and resources, there are people who want to help and support you and they might not be a major corporation. Even better. Thank you, thank you to the San Antonio African American Community Archive and Museum (SAAACAM) @archivemuseum on becoming the FIRST official sponsor of the Culture Travel magazine. Don’t get it twisted, it’s not just about money it’s about collective growth across values. This museum, while in our local community, also aligns with one of the Culture Travels values: preserving African American history. For us, that’s Black history as it relates to travel and internationalism. For SAAACAM, it’s Black history known and unknown. We’re incredibly excited to be partnering with what will become the 2nd largest African American museum in the country once they relocate to their new building in downtown San Antonio. We’ll have the latest updates and behind the scene shots as this museum grows. For now, we’re celebrating the beginning of a great partnership. You’ll learn more about SAAACAM as we dedicate an entire spread in our December issue to he museum, their team, and vision. #culturetravels #africanamericanhistory #africanamericanmuseum #blacktravel #sanantonio

People travel for sports. I had to take a moment and pinch myself when I thought about the star studded weekend Culture Travels got to experience. First, we had an amazing time interviewing Jeff Jenkins in Austin, TX. We all want to be successful, but not everyone is willing to overcome their own demons (self doubt, resistance to hard work) to create the life they want. Jeff is not one of those people and in his interview he shared valuable tips on how anyone can overcome their own demons on the way to success. The next day, we shot over to San Antonio to cover the San Antonio International Tennis Championships where we saw, met, and interviewed the mayor of San Antonio Ron Nirenberg international tennis star Gael Monfils and had the opportunity to cover the icon, legend, international star, and future hall of famer Venus Williams. What amazes me about Gael and Venus is how genuine they both are. As an endless number of fans surrounding them for autographs and pictures they both seem to recognize how great of a moment it was for their fans, the children in particular. This was a great experience for our team on how to cover sports tourism and celebrities. Definitely looking forward to covering our next event and continuing to build up the Culture Travels brand. Ppreciate y’all for the support and encouragement as we continue to grow. #culturetravels #sportstourism #blacktravel #austin #sanantonio #travel
