Earlier this month, B-Girl Logistx, who represented Team USA at the Paris Olympics this summer, visited Culture Shock to lead a breaking workshop, followed by a Q&A and meet-and-greet. Dancers of all ages, backgrounds, and experiences attended, making it a truly inspiring event! ??

In July, we had the invaluable opportunity to dive deep into the Strategic Planning process with Nancy Batterman and our dedicated staff and board members. Over two weekends, we focused on defining our core purpose, establishing our core values, and setting both short-term and long-term goals. With a renewed sense of direction and focus, we are excited to bring our vision to life. We are thrilled to share our strategic vision, which centers on inviting diverse communities together to create a sense of belonging through the unifying power of hip hop culture and dance. We figured that we would start by sharing our core values and core purpose with the image below. These values will guide our actions and decisions, ensuring alignment with our mission and vision. We are deeply grateful for your continued support and look forward to building a brighter future together! ??

I’ve been taking cardio hip-hop, contemporary, and choreography dance classes at Culture Shock Training Academy for a few years and have found it to be a journey of transformation. I have gone from watching other people in class making sure I was moving correctly, to now having the confidence to watch myself in the mirror. Through dance, I have gradually learned to embrace my body, express myself, and gain confidence. The supportive environment at Culture Shock allows me to feel safe and encouraged, by helping me take up space and dance freely without fear of judgment. I formed connections with the Culture Shock community, joined Afta-Shock dance team, and recently became a member of their Board of Directors. Dancing has become a form of therapy for me, and I credit Culture Shock for helping me maintain my 85lb weight loss. I want to give back what Culture Shock has given me. Breaking made its Olympic debut in Paris this summer, marking a historic moment for the global dance community and showcasing a dance art form deeply rooted in hip hop culture. At Culture Shock San Diego, breaking has always been a core element of our training, providing a platform for dancers to hone their skills and express themselves through this powerful art form. Seeing Logistx, who got her start in our studio, represent breaking on the world stage is a testament to the legacy we've built in nurturing talent and supporting the journey from local practice spaces to international platforms. This milestone is not just a celebration of breaking's rise to global recognition but also of the community and culture that have fostered its growth. We stand with Logistx, proud of her achievement and the impact of hip hop culture on the world stage. As we celebrate Logistx's incredible journey to the Olympics, we’re reminded of the powerful legacy that Culture Shock San Diego has fostered for years. This legacy thrives because of the support from our community, allowing us to continue training and inspiring the next generation of dancers.
