What is spot on about this article is Doug Melvin's description of why for profit companies pursue internal and external inclusion efforts, "finding ways to be inclusive of these (diverse consumer)voices allows companies to overcome the historic blind spots with these consumers, when it comes to messaging, marketing and elevating their importance to business, the economy and society at large." What is fascinating is how far off the characterizations of inclusion and belonging are from the 19 state AGs. I'd have a difficult time explaining to my mom why I am doing "dangerous, demeaning and immoral" work. That ain't how she raised me. What's is hopeful is that large companies whose stated values align with inclusion efforts seem to have hardened their positions since this article was originally posted in January.
