Start with why. We often hear that, and it's definitely important. Running a business is challenging, and having a clear "why" gives us the motivation to push through the tough times. Our purpose keeps us focused on making a genuine difference. Yet, I believe that "how" we do something is just as important. Articulating a clear set of values - and more importantly, actually using them - is crucial for both trust and accountability. What does this actually look like in practice? Well, for us, it meant refining our Mission, Vision, and Values, and implementing systems to keep our values alive, like having prospective hires select a value and explain its importance during the hiring process. This has worked for us, but I believe in continuous improvement and am always on the lookout for new ideas! When I was first approached by an egg company to assist with their B Corp recertification, I was excited to learn more about their company and industry. After working closely with K. G., Tracy Favre, P.E., and Sycamore May, I certainly learned a lot about regenerative agriculture and humane practices! More importantly, I developed deep respect for the values that they bring to their business and for what they're doing in their industry. Increasing your score during recertification is never easy, and when you do it, it's cause for celebration: an increase in score represents an increase in positive, impactful practices. ???? B Corp recertification can yield many benefits for companies. Are you ready to recertify?

Is getting recertified as a B Corp easier than getting the initial certification? Not necessarily. What I've found is that for some really small companies that didn't have any changes in their business, recertification doesn't have to be a heavy lift. For everyone else, it can take time and effort, especially if you use it as the opportunity for learning and improvement that it can and should be. If your recertification is coming up in the next couple of years and you're wondering about the process, the timeline, and the new standards, check out the slides below for answers to your questions.
