This year’s GAC isn’t just another conference. It’s a pivotal moment for the future of credit unions and the millions of Americans we serve. Over one-third of Americans depend on credit unions for equitable financial services, competitive loans, and a path for upward mobility. We exist to provide access, opportunity, and financial empowerment. Credit unions help people buy their first homes, finance cars, and start small businesses. It’s about their future. But our ability to serve is under serious threat. If credit unions lose their tax-exempt status (a documented priority of some lawmakers), the natural eventuality will be to raise the 18% APR cap on lending. That means the average American will have fewer options for saving money and making every penny count. It will dismantle the ability for Americans to budget responsibly and remove the banks’ biggest competitor (our industry as a whole). What can you do? Arm yourself with data and share your story. If you’re a CUCollaborate client, prepare your impact report now. Reach out to America's Credit Unions for national and state data. Engage with your League to support their advocacy efforts and educate lawmakers. It doesn’t matter if your lawmaker is from a red, blue, or purple district. Credit unions serve everyone. The “people helping people” philosophy transcends politics. Remind lawmakers that your members are THEIR constituents. Paint a picture of how impactful it will be for them to be remembered as the person who helped Americans budget for their families. Now is the time to prepare for these conversations. Now is the time to make our voices heard. Now is the time to tell not just the credit union story, but YOUR credit union’s story. Stand up for the future. #peoplehelpingpeople #creditunions #cooperatives Luminate Jim Nussle Anthony Demangone Juan Fernández Ceballos, MBA, CUDE Angela Gervais Nanci Wilson, CUDE, CCUFC Ariel Bilskey, CUDE Katherine Fischer Michael Hooper Albert Howard Chad Miller Joshua Poole, CUERME, MBA Jessica Sharon, CCUFC, CUDE, MBA Cory Fleming, CCUE Brian Best Alex Lucas Kacie Lau Mach Helen Delin Judy De Lucca Lacey Galyon, CCUFC Bruce H. We have received reports that the?U.S. Department of the Treasury is currently reviewing several hundred contracts based on recommendations from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). This includes evaluations related to NMTC allocation applications, as well as CDFI and NACA funding award applications. ? While this review affects contracted grant scorers who assist the CDFI Fund in evaluating applications, any potential contract cancellations would primarily impact personnel capacity rather than halt the scoring process entirely. The CDFI Fund remains committed to ensuring that applications are reviewed and processed. ? ?? We encourage you to get involved! A single credit union’s data only tells half the story—without broader market data, you're flying blind!? ? ?? Are we going to attract new money, or just reprice existing deposits? ?? Will our rate be too high, too low, or just right compared to peers? ?? How much deposit growth are we leaving on the table? ?? What pricing is making moves and how are members responding? ? CUCollaborate has invested in building out the leading data consortium in the space to equip Credit Unions to do more -- tap into shared, anonymized data and access real-time market data and competitive benchmarks. Guide the future of your CU forward with context and with confidence.
