?? Excited to speak at the Peninsula Data Happy Hour meetup tomorrow! I’ll be sharing how we’re building AI agents that can not only read the semantic layer but also modify it in real-time. Semantic layers have become a de facto requirement for AI agents accessing data in cloud data warehouses. But what happens when AI doesn’t just consume the semantic layer—but actively shapes and optimizes it? Imagine AI data engineers dynamically adjusting data models, refining metrics, and improving performance—all while ensuring governance and reliability. Looking forward to the discussion!

?? Rethinking OLAP: How to Migrate from SSAS to a Modern Semantic Layer Are you still relying on SSAS but facing challenges with cost, scalability, and cloud migration? As organizations move to platforms like Snowflake, Databricks, and Redshift (OR “newplatforms”), legacy OLAP can create roadblocks. Join our upcoming #firesidechat on April 9 at 9:00 AM PST to learn how your organization can” ? Eliminate costly SSAS licensing & maintenance ? Enable real-time analysis in Excel & Power BI ? ?? Is Your Analytics Stack Holding You Back in the Cloud Era? ?? For decades, Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) has been the go-to OLAP solution. But as businesses migrate to cloud platforms like Snowflake, Databricks, and BigQuery, SSAS is becoming a roadblock. In his latest blog, Michael Hetrick, Cube’s Director of Product Marketing, breaks down why SSAS struggles in a cloud-first world: ?? Costly Complexity: Duplicate infrastructure, licensing fees, and siloed Excel workflows. ?? Limited Scalability: Built for on-prem, SSAS can’t keep up with elastic cloud demands. ?? Slow Performance: Bottlenecks hinder real-time insights as data volumes grow. The solution? Cube Cloud—a modern universal semantic layer that bridges cloud data and BI tools. Ready to modernize your OLAP strategy? Dive into Mike’s blog to learn how Cube Cloud future-proofs your analytics. ?? ?? ?? BI’s Harsh Lessons: Why Scaling AI Will Be Even Harder ?? Despite decades of investment, BI adoption remains stuck at 25-35%. Fragmented data, inconsistent metrics, and eroded trust plague organizations. Now, as AI takes center stage, the stakes are higher—and the risks of repeating BI’s mistakes are real. The Fix? A universal semantic layer. Learn more: https://gocube.co/4hlrg6F #DataScience #AI #BusinessIntelligence #DataGovernance #MachineLearning #DataEngineering

At the Gartner conference last week, I heard a constant refrain that PowerBI customers are very frustrated with both the performance of PowerBI against cloud data warehouses and the way they are being forced to adopt the increasingly expensive and unpopular Fabric architecture. I don't know what MSFT will do about this. Hopefully something more than just increasing the prices yet again and browbeating customers into a sort of submission. What can customers can do about it? Cube's PowerBI live connections to Snowflake may be exactly what they need.
"Power BI is fine but I just hate how many imports our users are creating." This is something I've heard over and over again from customers using Power BI in conjunction with Snowflake. I've heard similar sentiments from Snowflake AEs and SEs supporting their customers. But why are these users creating imports? It's not because Snowflake performs poorly. It's typically because the alternative is what Microsoft calls DirectQuery mode - Power BI issuing SQL queries to Snowflake. DirectQuery has many known limitations, including row-count limits even in intermediate results and poorly optimized SQL. Cube Cloud provides an alternative with it's DAX API endpoint for Power BI. We can connect to Power BI as a Live Connection, in which Power BI speaks its native language, DAX, and we handle the translation and query optimization with significantly improved performance while also respecting security and governance models within Snowflake. Come hang out with us for an hour on Wednesday March 12th, 9am PST to learn about how to improve Power BI performance on Snowflake with Cube Cloud. https://lnkd.in/gUtZr2Pn
