"If you are just seeing the person, patching them up, and then sending them right back into the exact same circumstances, we know it's going to lead to them being hurt again. It's critical we address the social determinants of health and then try to change the equation." -- Ben Li, MD, emergency medicine physician and AIM Medical Director at Denver Health and FIPI faculty affiliate, discusses the importance of hospital-linked violence intervention programs (HVIPs) like AIM, the At-Risk Intervention and Mentoring program in Denver. AIM uses HVIP best practices and a public health approach to support gunshot wound victims post-discharge and interrupt the cycle of violence among Denver’s at-risk youth and young adults. AIM also works closely with the newly opened REACH Clinic, a community-based clinic that provides multidisciplinary, wraparound care to survivors of bullet-related injuries. However, uncertainty around federal funding threatens the critical work of HVIP programs like AIM. Hear more from AIM staff, FIPI faculty affiliates Virginia McCarthy, DrPH, MPH, MDiv and Catherine Velopulos MD, MHS, FACS, and HVIP colleagues about this important work? https://lnkd.in/dRgu9svV Learn more about AIM ?? https://lnkd.in/gR4h2NBC?
