The CT Compost Alliance Steering Committee announces compost tours across Connecticut in 2025. These events will highlight different composting operations, offering learning opportunities for both beginners and those with experience. Our first compost tour stop is at @longtablefarmct on Thursday, March 27th. At 4:00 PM, LTF Owner Baylee Drown will give a tour of her compost operation, followed by refreshments and networking. FROM AGRICULTURE, CONNECTICUT DEPARTMENT OF Attention CT farmers, foresters, and agricultural community: we need your input! $220 million has been approved in the federal budget to provide aid to 8 eligible states, including Connecticut, to compensate producers for losses and expenses resulting from weather events in 2023 and 2024. We need comprehensive data to accurately access the scope of losses and inform the funding request. Please take a few minutes to complete our short survey. Congrats to Cricket Hill Garden for "Going Green" with their recent installation of a 12 kW roof mounted solar PV system located at their farm in Thomaston, CT. This system will power 100% of their specialty plant nursery. This project will offset carbon that is the equivalent of 9.2 acres of U.S forests. CT Military Veterans: Have you ever considered starting your own farm? Now is the time! There has never before been a better opportunity or more support for you to achieve this! Last year the CONNECTICUT RESOURCE CONSERVATION AND DEVELOPMENT AREA INC in partnership with the Connecticut Farmer Veteran Coalition, was awarded grant funding by the AGRICULTURE, CONNECTICUT DEPARTMENT OF specifically to help CT Veterans start their own farm, and for CT Veterans who are current farmers to receive veteran to veteran technical and grant writing assistance.
