Some thoughts on the "State of Enterprise AI" based on a recent survey...
The State of Enterprise AI... According to ChatGPT and AI Professionals Dataiku recently posted an interested article called "The Ultimate Test of ChatGPT". (See the post here: https://lnkd.in/eqNgPs4n) The article publishes the results of a survey run by Dataiku and Databricks of "400 AI Professionals from leading global companies" related to the current state of enterprise based AI initiatives. The surveyors then posed the same questions to ChatGPT by OpenAI to determine how close the chatbot's answers were to the AI professionals. They concluded that ChatGPT did very well, scoring 3.15 out of 5 in matching the AI professionals. Now, it's very interesting that ChatGPT could come so close to matching the survey results. But I also found the results themselves interesting: Q: What best describes the level of adoption of data science and/or AI at your organization? A: Interestingly, in these large organization with "AI professionals", the most popular responses were "Establishing" (24%) and "Expanding" (37%). Only 20% of respondents said they were "Embedding" data science/AI across their organization. Here's another: Q: Please rank all barriers preventing organizations from delivering more value from data, analytics, and AI, where 1 is the biggest/most present barrier. A: 1) Lack of quality data or ability to easily access the right data. 2) Inability to quickly operationalize and iterate on data, analytics, and AI products. 3) Lack of data talent or data-literate workforce. 4) Lack of visibility and control of data, analytics, and AI products across the organization. In many ways, these barriers demonstrated that the organizations are working against themselves through siloed data access, internal politics and control, and hiring issues. Note, that this survey was taken two years after ChatGPT was launched. So, while organizations (even large organizations) are excited about the prospects of AI, they have not yet figured out how to operationalize and productionize efficiently. (By the way, the majority of respondents also said they are seeing greater than 200% of ROI from AI initiatives. Seems that would be a great incentive to do more, instead of getting bogged down in the bureaucracy...)
