This week, CTECS proudly hosted the National Association of Women in Construction Hartford CT Chapter (NAWIC) for their #WomenInConstruction Week Celebration & Luncheon! 85 women in the #construction industry gathered to network, share insights, and celebrate the incredible work being done in the field. Attendees heard from several speakers, including: ?? Dr. Alice Pritchard, Executive Director, CTECS ?? Don Shubert, President, CCIA ?? Kelly Shane, Chief Administrative Officer, The Metropolitan District ?? Keynote Speaker: Cheryl Capitani, Assistant Principal, Prince Technical High School Dr. Pritchard emphasized the impact of organizations like National Association of Women in Construction, stating, “Groups like #NAWIC that have been around for a very long time make it better for women entering this field.” Keynote speaker Cheryl Capitani shared how CTECS construction programs are preparing students for the #workforce and encouraged hiring through Work-Based Learning (#WBL). Thanks to legislation developed in partnership with the Connecticut Department of Labor and the Connecticut State Department of Education, students as young as 16 can gain hands-on experience through WBL, even in hazardous occupations. A special highlight: a dozen female construction students from Prince Tech attended, gaining invaluable exposure to industry professionals and future career opportunities.
