The agreement to demolish the long-vacant coal plant along Bridgeport Harbor represents more than just the removal of an eyesore—it’s a strategic investment in the economic future of Bridgeport and Connecticut. Through $22.5 million in state funding from the Community Investment Fund, we’re not just clearing the way for new development; we’re paving a path for opportunity and vibrancy. This 33-acre waterfront site holds incredible potential to create spaces where people can live, learn, work, and play. It’s a chance to attract businesses, grow jobs, build housing, and enhance public access to one of Connecticut’s most beautiful natural assets—the shoreline. This project is about revitalizing Bridgeport and tapping into its vast potential as a hub for economic growth, environmental sustainability, and community vibrancy. By unlocking this site for redevelopment, we’re not only addressing decades of environmental challenges but also creating a destination that will draw visitors and investors from across the globe.
