Valencia was quoted in The New York Times discussing the viral videos of detainees in El Salvador. “It’s the shock value,” Ricardo Valencia, a press officer at the Salvadoran Embassy in Washington from 2010 and 2014, and a public relations professor at California State University, Fullerton, said of the videos. “But this tells you about how little rule of law there is in El Salvador. When fellow Daily Titan editors and I discussed reviving a newsroom-produced podcast eight months ago, I never thought we'd be recognized for our work in our first semester. So, I was very proud when we received third place in the College Media Association's Best Podcast competition at their New York City conference last week! In addition to serving as an Executive Producer, I frequently appear on the podcast to talk about my news and sports reporting. In our award-winning episode, I spoke about my article on the aftermath of rapper Quavo not showing up to CSUF ASI's Spring Concert. The award we won is a result of our collective hard work and commitment to the podcast — but what makes it one of my favorite parts of my job is the people I get to work with. I'd like to thank fellow EP Isaiah Mallari — the mastermind behind the podcast — for his leadership in ensuring we have an episode every week with variety in reporting. Thanks to producer Luis Vizcaíno Cortés for being a jack-of-all trades and for his hard work editing the podcast. And thanks to hosts Jayden Lovelady and Kabeer Kansara, who bring equal parts charisma and care when it comes to sharing the stories Daily Titan produces. ?? Last Friday, we had the pleasure of touring Rocket Launch, an award-winning integrated marketing and public relations firm.???? It was an amazing opportunity to learn from some of the best in the business, and we couldn’t have asked for a more insightful experience. Our tour included an exciting opportunity to hear case studies from the agency where we explored real-world PR strategies, including their work with Fresh Del Monte. We got to see firsthand how they crafted a pitch for a $400 pineapple and turned it into a PR success story, using the price point as a clever tool to generate buzz. The result? The pineapple sold out, proving how strategic PR can turn even the most unexpected items into major wins! In my role as an Executive Director at Titan Public Relations, I’ve had the privilege of honing my leadership skills by helping run and organize the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) at California State University, Fullerton?student-run firm and mentoring all of our students as they work on their client accounts. But, one of the most rewarding aspects of my journey has been the opportunity to uplift and support my peers. Here are some key takeaways from our conversation: 1. Attending?PRSSA?panels has allowed her to see that you don’t need to have a PR background/degree to work in PR.
