关于我们

C-SED is hiring! https://csed.engin.umich.edu/jobs/ OUR APPROACH: Socially Engaged Design is human(ity) centered – not just user centered. We consider broad contexts through an equity-centered lens that impact the practice of engineering, including social, cultural, political, economic, and environmental factors that can completely change the design of solutions. Further, we push designers to analyze how their own identities and cultural context shape their approach. ABOUT C-SED: The Center for Socially Engaged Design uses evidence-based pedagogical methods in an adaptable, curated, customizable curriculum that integrates learning and practice experiences to meet each designer where they are on their design journey. Our goal is that all students leave Michigan with the demonstrated skills to design equitable solutions in partnership with diverse communities of stakeholders.

  • Join the Center for Socially Engaged Engineering and Design (C-SED) as a Case Study Writer and Learning Experience Designer! Contribute to innovative engineering education by researching and writing original case studies and developing corresponding modules and workshops for undergraduates that explore the social contexts of technology. We are considering applicants for part-time and full-time positions, and hybrid/remote work is possible. Socially Engaged Engineering and Design (SEED) case studies are microhistories that use an in-depth exploration of a single service, product, technology, event, or biography as an entry point for analyzing the impacts of engineering solutions and reflecting on broader issues of identity, power, and privilege in engineering work. We build our case studies by gathering diverse source materials that include academic articles, policy briefs, legal documents, news stories, press releases, interviews, social media posts, and more. We synthesize these sources to create original readings and workshop materials tailored to engineering course topics and instructors' learning goals. Summaries of the existing cases in our growing library are available on the Case Study Initiative's website. Apply now and be part of a mission-driven team dedicated to integrating sociotechnical content into engineering curricula! A background in engineering or a related STEM discipline is beneficial but not required. Candidates with humanities and social science backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.
