Happy Veterans Day! I want to thank those who served in uniform and their families. On days like today, I normally think of the amazing things I had the privilege of doing in the Navy and the incredible people I served with. But this #VeteransDay I want to pivot to the future and look to our military who are at a critical moment. It is important to recognize that our military cannot protect us without courageous men and women who join the services. Even in the future, it will be people that will determine how we win. Today, we live in a dangerous world where there are numerous engagements in Ukraine and Middle East. We must address China and and threats right around the corner. We are in an important period as our government seeks to modernize our military to fight the wars of the future, if we must. As we pioneer advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotics, we have an opportunity to send a robotic dog into the battlefield instead of a Soldier. Instead of inserting a team of Navy SEALs into a combat zone, we can fly an unmanned drone or vehicle first to determine the lay of the land. The technologies we are building are no longer science fiction. Young people who will be joining the military today will have the opportunity to transform our military to one that will embrace the future. We need tech savvy men and women who understand how machines work and know how to fix them. The buzzword I keep telling people we are using is in redefining how we modernize the military is "attritable". We need smaller and less costly platforms that utilize next-generation AI to sense and understand what data is being captured in real-time. Our country cannot afford to waste time and money on assets built for the fights of the past.
