1916 Boren is an 11-story life science building in Denny Triangle in Seattle. The building is designed with an end-loaded core that allows for ideal column spacing for its lab tenants. The core is treated as the identifying element of the building, with a textured metal panel that anchors the south end of the building and provides a backdrop for the ground level plaza.?The north end is anchored with the same metal panel, expressed with a “notch” above the main entrance. The ground-level features a two-story brick base to create a smaller scale to the building from the ground, along with a plaza with seating and landscape, bicycle storage, a spinning studio, fitness center, and retail space, and tenant-focused amenities. Two years ago, Lewis began demolishing an existing warehouse structure at the Port of Seattle’s Terminal 106 to lay the groundwork for an ambitious new project in partnership with Trammell Crow Company. Site preparation?on the 15-acre site?included stabilizing the soil with geopiers and?preloading the site to achieve reliable subgrade conditions. These efforts set the stage for the construction of the two-story Seattle Metro Logistics warehouse and distribution center. In mid-2023, Crutcher Structures crews started casting the facility’s 156 concrete wall panels. Measuring between 40 and 52 feet tall, the panels were lifted from their slabs by crane and tilted into place in just a few weeks. Structural steel erection followed for the steel and metal deck roof.?It took around 6,500 tons of steel to cover the structure, which stretches nearly a quarter mile from end to end. This?fall, Lewis celebrated the project’s completion. With more than 700,000 square feet of warehouse space and a 381,000-square-foot fleet garage, it now stands as the largest logistics facility within 15 miles of downtown Seattle, setting a new standard for scale and functionality in the region. ??: Moris Moreno (1, 5, 6) and Tim Rice (3)

The 222 5th Ave. life science project team has won a 2024 Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute (CRSI) Honors Award for design and construction excellence! ?? Built by Lease Crutcher Lewis steps from Seattle Center, the building features steel-reinforced cast-in-place concrete placed by Crutcher Structures. It incorporates a unique seismic system with an offset shear wall core and moment frames. Designed with life-science-ready floors and long-span flat-plate slabs, the project maximizes seismic performance, vibration control, and architectural flexibility. A complex bridge structure at the two-story Seattle Metro Logistics warehouse project in South Seattle is nearing completion. Semi-trucks arriving on-site will reach the upper-level loading dock via an earthen ramp and concrete bridge structure.?The bridge has complex geometry, with a design that includes compound slopes and angles, along with camber in the beams and girders. Crews from Crutcher Structures formed this bridge using 132 mega-shore towers ranging from 20-31 feet tall.?Crews from Pacific Steel Group placed 170 tons of reinforcing bar on top of the formwork before we covered it all in 832 cubic yards of concrete. Developed by Trammell Crow Company, Seattle Metro Logistics will be just the region’s second multistory warehouse when work wraps up this summer at the Port of Seattle's Terminal 106.
