Cory Hymel recently chatted with Bill Doerrfeld about his latest research study and the use of #LLMs in requirements gathering. ??We know that failure is the norm in app modernization, and while #AI may not be perfect for everything, it accelerates the discovery process by quickly analyzing legacy codebases and reverse-engineering original requirements. Business and tech teams are able to communicate better and make sure the updates actually solve the problem they’re meant to fix. ??
Is eBPF the future of container networking? It's certainly shaking things up... Containers are designed to be isolated—that's great for security but tricky for networking. eBPF is rewriting the rules, working at the kernel-level, and optimizing performance by cutting out the heavy network stack. As Liz Rice, Chief Open Source Officer at Isovalent, told me, "With eBPF, we can bypass parts of these superfluous networking stacks." For my latest InfoWorld feature, I spoke with top minds in the space about how eBPF is transforming container networking, who's adopting it, what challenges remain, and where else eBPF is making an impact. Huge thanks to everyone who contributed their insights. In order of appearance: - Bill Mulligan, Head of Community at Isovalent - Taranvir Singh, Research Manager at IDC - Liz Rice, Chief Open Source Officer at Isovalent - Shane Utt, Senior Principal Software Engineer at Red Hat - Lin Sun, Director of Open Source at Solo .io, Istio Steering Committee, Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) TOC - Dave Tucker, Senior Principal Software Engineer at Red Hat Big thank you to Doug Dineley for the direction and edits on this one, too. #kubecon #cncf #container #networking #cilium #ebpf #cloudnative #kernel #linux

?? AI and "vibe coding" ?? Kevin Roose's recent piece on AI and coding struck a chord with Cory Hymel - and we get it! AI-driven development is all about embracing the future, democratizing coding, and empowering a global community of developers to innovate and create without limits. ?? #AI #VibeCoding #SoftwareDevelopment #Innovation
I spent the first 15 years of my career as a hard-core engineer. IN. THE. TRENCHES. Doing everything from early AI research (shouts genetic algo’s), mobile dev, embedded systems programming, and more. I could code. Then I moved up into leadership roles while quietly quitting programming. Over the last decade my programming extent has been baby excel scripts and website tweaks. I was washed up, outdated, and outpaced by new languages, technologies, and people. Anytime I’d even try to get vs code up and running I’d get discouraged and fall back to my management brain of “delegate to someone that knows more than you”. AI, and the newly minted term “vibe coding”, has brought me back from the brink of obsolescence. I can finally, once again, “git push --force” my halfway decent code out to the world. I’ve seen a number of others that were once relegated to the outskirts of software creation using AI to build tailor made apps that solve their acute pain points. Kevin Roose actually has a great piece on this, link below. I truly believe that for all the negative energy from senior devs against AI created code it is a good thing. Mario Rodriguez , the CPO at GitHub, once told me his vision to bring 1 billion new developers into the world – to do that you have to change the game. AI coding, code gen, ai assist, whatever you want to call it, changes the game. but. It’s not perfect. A lot of it today is hype, some reality, but it is something. Something that we can’t ignore. https://lnkd.in/eTAEWCki

With A.I. Agents, You Get What You Give: The Power of Quality Prompts As we move towards a future where #AI driven code generation becomes integral to the development process, it’s important to consider the one factor that will ultimately shape how effective these systems are: the quality of the prompts they receive. As John Giorgi highlights in Steve Lohr’s article in The New York Times, these tools already save developers hours each week. But we’re still in the early stages. The more we refine how we interact with these agents, the more they can amplify our productivity, creativity, and innovation. ??The key takeaway? AI will not replace developers; it's here to empower them. But in order to unlock its full potential, we must learn to communicate with it effectively #AI #SoftwareDevelopment #TechInnovation #MachineLearning #CodeGeneration

?? LLM's or Humans? Cory Hymel’s, recently published research compares the effectiveness of #LLMs and human experts in creating software requirements. The study reveals that LLMs are not only 720x faster but also generate more aligned and complete requirements—at a fraction of the cost. As #AI continues to evolve, LLMs are poised to play a major role in accelerating the #SoftwareDevelopment lifecycle. Read more here ?? https://lnkd.in/dhPntz6Z
