Jason Burnett, Crosswalk Labs' CEO & Co-Founder, had great conversations with attendees of the Stanford Climate Data Conference. Data Foundation, Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability, and Stanford Law School Catherine Atkin, Liv Watson, Nancy Pfund, Jane Woodward, David J. Hayes, and Ryan Alexander. Excited to see where this work leads! Key Takeaways from the Stanford Climate Data Conference: Avoiding the “Rearview Mirror” Problem – Stale data is not useful for decision-makers. Climate insights must be timely. ?? Crosswalk Labs’s 2024 emissions data release is coming soon! “Counting vs. Accounting” (David J. Hayes) – Many emissions reports would not pass an accountant’s test. True accountability requires: standardized, high-quality methods, more widespread participation, and fixing Scope 3 challenges. Scaling Climate Data Access – Current methods used by leading climate-focused companies and local governments do not scale. We need to grow from a few hundred to ten thousand local governments and from a thousand companies to millions of SMEs worldwide. The “Utility Data Easy Button” – How do we create a one-click system for companies and governments to securely share utility data for emissions analysis? Building Trust Through Transparency – Could blockchain help verify sources and boost credibility? Some companies have already opened proprietary data to build public and regulatory trust (e.g., fracking fluid disclosures). Wrapping up a successful Esri Federal GIS Conference #FedGIS2025! Special thanks to Jack Dangermond, Katie Decker, and The Silicon Hill for supporting innovation. "What we provide is the ability to measure—and therefore better manage—community GHG emissions. This is especially important at a time when addressing climate change is not a federal priority. Local governments and the private sector need the right tools to understand their emissions and make data-informed decisions to drive reductions." — Jason Burnett, CEO & Co-founder, Crosswalk Labs

I’m excited and impressed by Data Foundation's partnership with Crosswalk Labs. Together, they’re giving us a closer look at neighborhood-level emissions across the U.S. and making important air quality data publicly available so we can see exactly what we’re breathing in our communities. Much like the property companies like Zillow and Redfin using climate data as risk assessment (which has increased consumer education). In this case when used proactively, the data can shape community-level insights and fuel everything from regional planning to the development of pollution control technologies. Trust is a big enough issue in the US, we need further it by creating and keeping transparency between our domestic industries, like manufacturing, with their nearby communities. This initiative kicked off just last year and is already making progress—like launching an open data portal, which you can explore here:?https://lnkd.in/dx_q8_rY For more information about the partnership and what’s ahead, check out the press release here:?https://lnkd.in/dDDpt5Rw #Sustainability #ClimateAction #EnvironmentalImpact #OpenData #ClimateTech
