90% of companies fail to execute their strategy: But what sets the other 10% apart? Let me introduce you to an incredibly effective framework: The Strategy Pyramid Originally shared by Wendy McGuiness (2011), this framework outlines 9 essential elements of successful strategy and execution. These elements are organized into 3 core categories: Purpose, Strategy, and Execution. A) Purpose i. Mission: Defines the company’s core purpose, answering questions like: “Why do we exist?” and “What is our main reason for being in business?” ii. Values: Establishes the principles and beliefs that guide decision-making. Shapes organizational culture by aligning with ethical standards and desired behaviors. iii. Vision: Creates a compelling image of the company’s desired future. It answers the question: “Where do we aim to be in the years ahead?” B) Strategy iv. Strategic Intent: Specifies the organization’s top goals and objectives. Lays out the desired outcomes and how to achieve them. v. Drivers: Highlights the key factors driving success, such as: market expansion, innovation, cost efficiency, or customer satisfaction. vi. Enablers: Focuses on the tools, resources, and capabilities required to implement the strategy. Includes technology, skilled personnel, and financial assets. C) Execution vii. Targets and Initiatives: Defines actionable steps and measurable targets aligned with strategic objectives to drive progress. viii. Performance Indicators: Establishes KPIs to monitor progress and measure the impact of strategic efforts. ix. Strategy Map: Provides a clear visual representation of the strategy to ensure organizational alignment and clarity. This framework helps leaders: 1) Define their organization’s purpose. 2) Craft a focused strategy. 3) Execute it with precision. Each pillar is equally vital - neglecting one can jeopardize the entire process. To succeed in execution: You must clearly define what you are going to execute. P.S. Are you dedicating enough attention to your strategy? ----- ?? Please take a look at these two exciting programs from University of Pennsylvania for students and teachers. 1. Penn Summer Science Initiative (PSSI) Penn currently accepting applications for their high school summer program. They are looking for students entering their junior or senior year of high school from the greater Philadelphia region for a four-week materials science course in July. They especially encourage students with diverse perspectives and backgrounds to apply. Students should apply here: https://lnkd.in/efc6XHj3 The deadline for students to submit their applications is March 1st. 2. Research Experience for Teachers (RET) As part of the RET, teachers will undertake a research program for six weeks- from June 16 through July 25, 2025. Each teacher will be assigned to a senior investigator and paired with a mentor (typically a graduate student or post-doc). Each teacher will work to help that research group translate their work into understandable concepts for younger audiences through a demo and/or hands-on activity (something you all do normally!) The program page and application are here. https://lnkd.in/ejp-q4Kf The deadline for teachers to submit their applications is April 1st.

Thank you to everyone who participated in - and contributed to the success of - our 2024 STEM Equity Week “STEMposium”, which was held on Wednesday, October 30 at the Quorum at University City Science Center. The symposium brought together members of the Philadelphia STEM Equity Collective (PSEC), the Philadelphia STEM Ecosystem, and collaborators in STEM education, policy and industry, for an opportunity to recognize the work being done by the Collective and Ecosystem members. Plenary sessions shared reflections on a Partnership Community of Practice at William Cramp Elementary School, centered the experiences of young people on STEM pathways entering the workforce, and looked towards the future landscape of STEM careers.? ? With NBC10 Meteorologist, STEM equity advocate, and children’s book author, Brittney Shipp as event emcee, attendees had the opportunity to hear from Councilmember At-Large Nina Ahmad as she shared her own personal connection to the importance of STEM education and presented an official City Council citation recognizing the work of PSEC and honoring the 2024 Philadelphia STEM Equity Week!? Running concurrently to the Plenary Sessions, PSEC hosted a DEIB Best Practices Forum for STEM Employers, led by Jennifer Fei of ōen studios. Human resources and DEIB representatives convened to discuss the practices they sustain or the barriers they face in their efforts to recruit, develop and retain diverse talent. The forum explored areas of existing alignment or opportunities across employers, talent and workforce development organizations and job seekers exploring the criteria each value most.? STEMposium Keynote Speaker, Dr. Joeletta Patrick, who is currently serving on a two-year detail assignment to NASA Langley Research Center as the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) Champion, shared her personal journey that brought her to NASA, including what inspired her during childhood. Dr. Patrick also spoke to her current work on DEIA initiatives and reflected on best practices as well as “promising practices”.? The afternoon concluded with a reception and recognition ceremony, honoring individuals within the Ecosystem or Collective for the impactful work they do through their organizations. Congratulations to Satoia Wright, Maya Heiland, Francesca Tuazon, Ph.D., Hannah Farrell, Renee Harris, MSEd, Jamie Shuda, EdD, Atiyah Harmon, Betsy Payne, and Launchpad Philly for being nominated by their peers to be celebrated on this occasion!
