What’s good for the heart is good for the brain! ???? Croí is proud to support National Brain Awareness Week 2025 as a member of the Neurological Alliance of Ireland (NAI). Did you know? ?? · Neurological disorders affect up to 1 billion people worldwide, nearly 1 in 6 of the world’s population. · According to the World Health Organization, 1 in 3 people will experience a neurological condition in their lifetime. Cardiovascular disease kills 1 in 3 women globally every year. ???? That could be someone you love, your mum, your sister, your auntie, your daughter, your friend. Yet, it remains understudied, underdiagnosed, and undertreated. Too often, symptoms go unrecognised by both women and healthcare professionals because they can present differently in women. This lack of awareness causes many women to dismiss warning signs or delay seeking care. Even when they do seek help, their symptoms are frequently overlooked or misattributed to stress or anxiety. The result? Missed diagnoses. Delayed treatment. Lives at risk. It’s time to change the narrative. Raise awareness. Advocate for better care. Women’s lives depend on it. Thank you to Siobhan Cunningham, Croí Patient Advocate, for helping us raise awareness of women’s heart health ahead of #InternationalWomensDay. ?? ?? A groundbreaking pilot Health Check Initiative, delivered by Croí,?the Heart & Stroke Charity, the Irish Farmers Association (IFA), and the Department of Agriculture, has exceeded expectations, highlighting a strong demand for accessible health services in rural communities. Launched in Autumn 2024, the initiative provided over 1,200 free health checks at livestock marts and?agri-events, surpassing its target by 22%. Findings revealed that?nearly 50%?of participants had elevated blood pressure or cholesterol levels, reinforcing the need for regular heart health checks. At the official report launch in Kilkenny, Croí emphasised the importance of early detection and prevention,?stating, “With 80% of premature cardiovascular disease being preventable, accessible health checks are essential.” Recommendations include expanding the programme nationwide to ensure more farmers can access life-saving health support.
