Through a longstanding collaboration between Croatan Institute and Miss Grace Farms, we are pleased to announce that more than 80 acres of diversified farmland, based in Pink Hill, on the coastal plain of eastern NC, have achieved #organic certification with CCOF (California Certified Organic Farmers). Wood Turner (Farm Manager) shares, "I hope we can be an example for how to make our area a hub for producing the cleanest, healthiest #food, building living, carbon-rich #soil, and supporting thriving #biodiversity. That's what organic is about." Kudos to Earthjustice and a small group of bold farmers and nonprofits for taking action yesterday to seek relief for all farmers and nonprofits still being affected every day by the illegal freeze of Congressionally appropriated, competitively awarded federal funding from the US Department of Agriculture. We need larger, more well-resourced organizations (who are similarly impacted but watching in fear from the sidelines) to step up and show leadership in this way.
