The AIA Baltimore Health and Wellness Committee convened a lively panel discussion to understand Maryland's Building Energy Performance Standards and how these will impact existing and new construction healthcare portfolios.?Maryland is a net importer of electricity, peaking in the summer months.?Starting next year, energy use reporting is required for most buildings over 35,000 SF by June 1st, 2025.?Our panelists agreed that long-term planning will most likely require exploring how to augment this available power.?Cogeneration of electricity for operational redundancy and sustainability has already been implemented in a new medical center on the Easten Shore, which is incorporating geothermal and foregoing the use of gas. We would like to thank our panelists Richie Stever MHA, SASHE, Jarret Horst, Stuart Kaplow, Zachary Berzolla, Ph.D., Rebecca Price, our moderator, and Price Modern, for hosting us in their well-appointed showroom.?CRGA Design and Price Modern helped sponsor this event.

This week we recognize the important role that healthcare engineers have in ensuring a safe and efficient environment for all patients, residents, visitors and staff. There are many ways to demonstrate support for engineers including offering in-depth facility tours to the healthcare staff members and clinicians to give a new perspective on the importance of facility engineering. We recognize healthcare engineers for the hard work they do, we are eager to keep the conversation going throughout the year. Happy National Healthcare Engineers week! #CelebrateFE #Healthcareengineering #Recognition

It was a great chance to unwind, enjoy the city, and celebrate healthy bodies and hearts—a perfect day to appreciate both our work and the vibrant spaces around us. #TeamOuting #UrbanDesign #InnerHarbor
