On June 21st, we recognize and celebrate the history, culture, heritage and diversity of Indigenous people across Canada as we mark another year of National Indigenous Peoples Day. National Indigenous peoples day was first announced by 1996 by former Governor General of Canada, Rome?o LeBlanc. This date was carefully consulted with various Indigenous communities such as the National Indian Brotherhood, which is now the Assembly of First Nations and the Sacred Assembly. In Canada, National Indigenous History Month is celebrated in June. By exploring the history, languages, cultures and experiences of Indigenous Peoples in Canada, we can take a step further for reconciliation and mutual understanding. So why don’t you join in your local community’s celebratory events and learn more about Indigenous cultural and heritage on June 21st, the day of summer solstice? #nihm2024 #nipd2024 #nihm

Providing equitable healthcare for all; respecting cultural sensitivity | Winner of 2024 IB Global Youth Action Fund
关于我们
Student-lead, non-profit health organization aiming to diminish medical inequality and promote reconciliation with Indigenous population. Based in Ontario, Canada, our goal is to provide fair healthcare for all. We were first established in 2023, from the group of students who came together at the TSE Schulich 2023 program. We found the common passion for providing health equality for everyone, and advocating for the abolitions of biases that marginalized communities suffer. Now, we are actively advocating for awareness, and expanding to help more communities to receive unbiased and fair treatments.

On April 22nd, we were selected as the 2024 IB Festival of Hope Global Youth Action Fund awardee. We will receive USD 3000 in grant funding, mentorship and connection with leaders in social entrepreneurship and other student awardees worldwide. With our co-presidents, Ayden Lee and Lucas Wei leading the submission of the pitch videos and all crew members contributing, we were able to achieve this great milestone. This award not only acknowledges our dedication to indigenous issues but also fuels our compassion for fostering reconciliation. As Crew of Care, we are driven by the vision of a caring, optimistic community that addresses these issues with utmost commitment. Through the International Baccalaureate, we would like to spread awareness of the systematic inequality that is occurring everywhere in the world and expand even further. With this fund, we are one step further into eventually diminishing all medical inequalities towards marginalized communities in the world, and through the young leaders of the IB, we aspire to let everyone feel comfortable financially, psychologically and culturally when receiving deserved treatments.

Yesterday, May 10th, me and my team at Crew of Care finally made our visions come true. Crew of Care is an NGO in which our mission is to provide equitable healthcare for marginalized communities, based in Canada. We aim to host charity events and charity matches and launch educational workshops to spread awareness. Currently, we are highly focused on assisting Indigenous communities in Ontario, Canada. The TMS Coffeehouse that we've hosted, was a charity event involving student and faculty performances at TMS. Donations were raised through accepting donations for the tickets, and bake sales. Me and Vincent Peng, our secretary, put a lot of effort into authorizing this event. Even though we made a few mistakes, it was a great success we raised over $800 in donations. All the donations will be directed to WaterFirst, a Canadian NGO working with Indigenous communities to resolve local water challenges. From countless meetings to screen-printing our T-shirts, special thanks to all crew members and volunteers for contributing to making this event come true. We believe that Crew of Care has so much more potential to come, and we look forward to expanding through events with larger scales, and different schools' chapters. That was fun, but I can't wait for the next steps ahead of us!
