Founded in the Summer of 2020, The Commercial Real Estate Group at GSU (CREG) is a student-run organization focused on helping members learn about the Commercial Real Estate industry while building valuable skillsets through immersive industry engagement, personal development, internship, and full-time opportunities. Our weekly meetings consist of guest speaker lectures, technical workshops, mock interviews, recruiting events, and occasional property tours. Exclusive discounts for educational and professional development resources are also offered. No prior Real Estate knowledge is required to become a member. We welcome and encourage GSU students interested in the industry to join!     Last night, we hosted our 'Building the Empire' meeting with Glenn Rufrano, Chairman of ICSC (Innovating Commerce Serving Communities). The evening kicked off with a special appearance by Mark Toro,Founder of Toro Development Company, and 'Building the Empire' podcast alum, who also led our recent property tour at Avalon. In a lively conversation between Glenn Rufrano and Adetayo Jr. Sanusi, President of CREG, we explored essential lessons for navigating the world of real estate. Glenn emphasized the importance of managing risk throughout your career, building a strong network of professionals and mentors, and maintaining curiosity by asking questions that help connect the dots. He also shared valuable insights on bouncing back from setbacks and using challenges as opportunities for growth. The night concluded with Jazmen Johnson, VP of DEI at ICSC, who shared exciting opportunities available to ICSC members.   • This past Thursday, we had a fantastic session featuring Gregory Boler Jr., Founder of KMT Partners LLC and Georgia State University alumnus, along with NAIOP Internship Program alumni Aj Kent and Tariq Collins! AJ and Tariq shared their unique journeys in commercial real estate, discussing the challenges they faced and the strategies they employed to achieve success. Their insights on the importance of networking and mentorship resonated with our members, who actively engaged by asking thoughtful questions about their experiences with the NAIOP program and how it has helped kickstart their careers. Greg Boler provided an inspiring look into his path from college to founding KMT Partners LLC. He emphasized the significance of building relationships and staying adaptable in the evolving real estate landscape. His journey highlighted the key decisions and lessons learned along the way, offering our members valuable perspectives on navigating their own careers.

  • This past Tuesday, we hosted the CREF Panel and Career Fair, bringing together over 10 leading companies including PNC Commercial, Corporate & Institutional Banking, Wells Fargo, Colliers, KeyBank, CBRE, Arbor Realty Trust, Newmark, Northmarq, BWE, Berkadia and Greystone. The evening began with a panel discussion moderated by Chelsea Cutler, where students gained valuable insights from top industry leaders. Afterward, attendees participated in a high-energy career fair, exploring diverse career paths and connecting with recruiters—perfectly timed for the recruiting season. We would like to thank the Mortgage Bankers Association, with the support of Reggie Booker and Tonya W., for helping make this event possible. A special thank you to all the companies and professionals who participated and engaged with our students. The future of CRE is brighter than ever, and we look forward to the opportunities that lie ahead!

  • Yesterday, the Commercial Real Estate Group had the privilege of hosting Pairris J., Director of Recruitment and Admissions at Management Leadership for Tomorrow. Attendees gained key insights into MLT’s career prep eligibility requirements, timelines for securing summer internships, and the wide range of partners—including TikTok, Apple, and Google—that collaborate to offer valuable opportunities. Pairris also emphasized the numerous benefits and resources MLT provides to empower underrepresented talent across various industries, from commercial real estate to consulting and financial services. In addition to this, we discussed our upcoming career panel and fair, where members began prepping their elevator pitches and refining their strategies for success.     Yesterday, The Commercial Real Estate Group at GSU kicked off its Career Building event with insightful market updates, keeping members informed on current trends in the industry. Members of the execution committee led the charge—Amaya Johnson presented her market update on South Spring, Ajoa Adu discussed the Georgia Pacific Headquarters, and Preston Moody shared updates on Centennial Yards. Following the market updates, the event transitioned into an educational session where members explored various career paths in commercial real estate, including brokerage, real estate banking, private equity, development, and more. E-board members led informative presentations: Vanessa Cruz on brokerage, Maria Hernandez and Tariq Sule on real estate banking, Kaitlin Novak on development, and Isabel Prieto on private equity. Members learned about essential skills, potential earnings, and the types of companies they could work for, giving them a comprehensive view of the industry’s opportunities.
