The North Central Region's Monthly AQIS Support Group was well attended yesterday afternoon! Hosted by CREC’s AQIS team and facilitated by AQIS Facilitator Sara Castle, this session focused on the power of interactive read-alouds and multiple book readings to build deep, meaningful connections with children. Aligned with NAEYC Early Learning Program Accreditation and the foundations of Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP), the discussion emphasized that reading is more than just literacy—it’s about relationships. Unlike passive screen time, holding and interacting with real books fosters conversation, strengthens emotional connections, and deepens comprehension. When children experience joyful, engaging read-alouds, they develop a love for books, build vocabulary, and form meaningful connections with caregivers and teachers. High-quality, diverse books also help children see themselves and others in the world around them, reinforcing the importance of equitable, high-quality early learning. Let’s continue prioritizing real books, real interactions, and real relationships in early learning!
