CREAToR is a European-funded research project aiming to remove hazardous flame retardants from plastic waste
关于我们
As a core technical development, CREAToR will adapt the extractive extrusion process known from polymer compounding to transfer it to the recycling industry. The aim is to enhance purification techniques based on supercritical CO2 extraction and the use of ionic liquids and/or (natural) deep eutectic solvents. The properties and potentials of this novel type of solvent inspired the consortium to tackle the most persistent problems in plastic recycling. To ensure high quality input for the extrusion based purification process, new bromine detection technologies will be applied, which will be utilised for large parts sorting. Sorting dismantled parts instead of shredded mixtures will significantly increase the purity of the incoming secondary raw material stream. The purified secondary raw material stream will be closely monitored, to ensure REACH conform removal of the hazardous compounds. Upon successful purification the materials will be optimised in terms of their material properties to allow their utilisation in demanding applications. The suitability of the materials will be shown by the production of 3 demonstrators: an automotive interior part, a foamed insulation board for B&C application, and a 3 D printed part for aerospace application. Additionally, an optimised logistics concept will be developed and validated in CREAToR, gaining additional commercial viability by integrating all proposed innovations into an industrial process, rather than researching isolated process solutions which do not match modern sector structures. CREAToR will advance knowledge beyond state of the art, creating new benchmarks that will serve industrial stakeholders, alongside policy makers, environmental groups and citizens. CREAToR’s comprehensive approach includes proof of concept evidence and marketing and business models that will maximise the return on investment for recycling operators.

We in CREATOR and SURPASS Project are looking forward to the Innovation Forum in Brussel on May 21st! We will take a look back at what has been achieved in CREATOR for the removal of hazardous substances with extractive extrusion and how SURPASS Project contributes to the SSbD of polymer composites for the railways sector. Innovation Forum is an on-going clustering initiative, bringing together projects with policy makers, end-users, industry representatives, investors, start-ups and SMEs. ?? As you know, Innovation Forum is back on May 21st- 22nd in Brussels! ?? To whet your appetite, here is the first session SUSTAINABLE LIVING Embracing the New European Bauhaus Vision for Systemic Change. Purpose: The Sustainable Living Session aims to advance the New European Bauhaus (NEB)?vision by promoting projects and initiatives that embody its principles and values. Through collaboration, innovation and knowledge exchange, the session seeks to achieve the purposes of building relationships, promoting projects results, support changemakers, foster Urban Innovation and, finally, embracing the NEB concept. The session embraces the NEB concept by showcasing projects that embody its principles of sustainability, inclusivity, and aesthetic quality. By highlighting initiatives focused on environmental protection, recycled materials, urban integration, and innovation in towns and cities, the session demonstrates how innovation can enhance the quality of life while preserving the natural environment and promoting social equity. Session Structure: The Sustainable Living Session spans a duration of two hours and comprises the following components: 1. Panel Discussion: A panel of main speakers (Vere Shaba, Alissa Bankovska among them), representing diverse perspectives within the field of sustainable living, explores key topics, challenges, and opportunities shaping the sector. The discussion is moderated to ensure a comprehensive exploration of relevant themes and insights. 2. Project Presentations: Following the panel discussion, seven projects related to sustainable living are presented, showcasing innovative solutions across different areas: a. Environmental Protection: StonewallsforLife project focuses on protecting the natural environment around villages from climate change impacts, with a transferable solution approach to other European locations. b. Recycled Materials: Projects like RemovAL Project and CREATOR present innovations in recycled materials, exemplified by the GREEN RED HOUSE and The Green 3D initiatives. c. Urban Integration: Initiatives such as GREEN ROOF demonstrate the integration of innovation with the urban environment, with adoption by city councils and urban communities across Europe.
