36 hours before our flagship event in Switzerland began - we were alerted that a landslide had wiped out the single road leading into our host town of Saas-Fee
We were no longer going to be able to host the event there.
9 months of planning, a whole hotel & itinerary set in stone, it all would have to change.
Honestly, we shouldn’t have been surprised - it’s become Camp tradition that some extreme weather event happens during our event (snowstorm in Park City last year, no power for half of a basecamp earlier this year).
However, the entire Valais and Swiss tourism team sprung into action. Finding us a new home in Leukerbad and helping shift our itinerary to ensure everything continued as planned.
Events of this scale will always have something go wrong and it’s in these moments that your team will be tested. Danny Desatnik, our sole man on the ground, would have to improvise and find solutions while the rest of the team would be in NYC focused on communicating the changes to the creators.
Huge thank you to Fabio Zurmühle, Claudio Zemp, Jessica K., Manuela Hess, Mattia Storni as well as Mario Braide, Jonna Wittwer, and the entire Valais/Wallis Promotion team, and to My Leukerbad for opening their arms to us.
It’d be an understatement to say that this dream was a long shot - but thankfully we were able to meet great partners who also understood our mission and were willing to go above and beyond to make it a success.
To bring us full circle, after the event, 20 creatives decided to plan their own trip out to Saas Fee led by Laila Zurbriggen getting to see the original hotel, and even the bench we had donated.
Maybe one day we’ll be back for redemption :)
