She is passionate about soft fabrics, simple designs, and washable clothing that fits easily into her busy lifestyle. Kat studied at the Savannah College of Art and Design, after which she began her career as a designer at a mall brand. She soon became disenchanted with the fashion industry at-large, and imagined an alternative where she could produce small-batch, ethically made clothing. Kat moved to Budapest, Hungary in search of inspiration and a different lifestyle in 2014. She began sewing and screenprinting tops out of her small flat in the city, and was able to reconnect with the art of making clothing by hand. A native of Raleigh, Kat moved back to her hometown in 2017. She is proud of her growing city and is excited that Pamut is able to continue in a long tradition of local clothing manufacturing while bringing in the elements of size inclusivity and low waste production. She is a new mom and is learning how to balance motherhood and entrepreneurship, her biggest challenge yet! #cmrdu?#creativemornings?#raleigh

November’s global CreativeMornings theme is THREAD. It was chosen by our Derby chapter in the United Kingdom, illustrated by Carla Dee, and is presented by our global partner Adobe. Have you ever pulled on a loose thread in a sweater or sock? Things can unravel quickly. The creative process can feel like that. A nagging thought, an imperfect bit, or a big tangled mess. But maybe that thread is trying to tell you something. Follow it and see where it takes you. Because thread is both a physical and metaphorical tool of creativity. In film and literature, a “thread” is the progression of a plot line or theme that helps tie the narrative together. While in sewing, weaving, embroidery, and knitting, the “thread” physically embellishes and holds the piece together. No wonder a loose thread is so hard to ignore. It turns out that all the good and bad in your life is forming a beautiful tapestry.? #CMThread?#CMRDU?#CreativeMornings

Drawing from her lived experience of the immigrant hustle, passion for coffee, and community. Areli enjoys making meaningful connections throughout the coffee supply stream. When she’s not making coffee things, she’s DJing or dancing to the sounds of the DJ collective she founded,?Mamis & the Papis. Last week, our team attended a special ceremony to receive the Raleigh Medal of Arts award. It was an incredible night where we celebrated this achievement for CreativeMornings Raleigh/Durham and all the other awardees who are doing amazing work for the Raleigh art community. We want to thank Raleigh Arts for this wonderful honor and anyone who has supported us over the last 12 years.
