I may not work in higher education anymore, but did you know that HACU has a Hispanic Serving School District (HSSD) initiative for K-12 schools who have a Latine/Hispanic student population of over 25%? This is important to continue the work of transitioning students from high school to a two or four year college, especially those higher ed institutions that are Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs). #HSIsWeek https://lnkd.in/gq4_iJdX

Happy to be able to bring members of the DO STEM Council to get a hands-on exploration tour of the newly established SmartLab in the Montgomery County Educational Service Center Learning Center North.

In the words of Mae Jemison: "The future never just happened. It was created." On this day in 1992, Jemison became the first African American woman in space. Fifty-seven women were selected for the U.S. astronaut corps between 1978 and 2018. In 1992, engineer and physician Jemison became the first African American woman to fly in space as a crew member of the Endeavour. After leaving NASA, Jemison continued her career in science and as champion for women in STEM. At Campos Foundation, we are lucky to not only serve kids in need but to work with partners who share a similar mission. Our friends at SmartLab have been awesome to work with and have helped us install 13 labs in schools across the country. Our 13th SmartLab at Garden Hills Elementary School in Atlanta is open for business and our Campos team will be there for the ribbon cutting in January. Recently Anne Burnett from SmartLab dropped off these awesome goodies, which we will proudly wear! ??
