关于我们

Creative Art Works is a 37-year-old nonprofit that empowers young people through the visual and multimedia arts. Our programs equip children, teens and young adults with essential tools and skills; connect them with community, academic success and career opportunities; and inspire them to reach for new possibilities. Working in underserved neighborhoods of NYC, we provide in-school and out-of-school time classes, public art youth employment programs, and community art-making events in partnership with public schools, recreation and cultural centers, and juvenile detention and foster care facilities, parks, and libraries. Our programs build confidence, unlock a love of learning, and teach valuable technical, social-emotional, and life skills while creating profound connections between our young constituents, their art and their communities. Students are never charged for participation, and youth apprentices earn wages.

https://lnkd.in/gfi6nb38 Creative Art Work’s Annual Benefit for Kids is a great time for a great cause. Join us as we revel in the joys of making an impact by investing in our local communities. CAW programs equip NYC youth with essential tools and skills; connect them with community, academic success, and career opportunities; and inspire them to reach for new possibilities. Of course, we could not provide these transformative programs without your generous donations, both large and small. As a Patron or Sponsor, you are invited to attend our Annual Benefit for Kids. It's a dynamic cocktail party that features live music, passed hors d’oeuvres, an exhibit of youth-created art, collaborative artmaking, and a chance to mingle with hundreds of your fellow philanthropists as well as our Board and Benefit Co-Chairs, Honorees, staff, Teaching Artists, and Youth Apprentices. On behalf of the entire host committee, we hope that we can count on you as we come together to celebrate our mission.

CAW is honored to announce that we’ve received a grant from NYC Department of Cultural Affairs’ FY2025 Cultural Development Fund (CDF)! Art and culture are the heart and soul of New York, contributing to a safer, stronger, more vibrant city. We’re proud to be among 1,078 organizations receiving over $59 million through the CDF - the largest-ever city allocation for the program, thanks to the partnership between the NYC Mayor’s Office and the City Council. This investment in our work will help us bring programs to members of our community. This CDF grant will support our in-school and out-of-school time artmaking programs in underserved communities of #NYC. You can read more about this year’s CDF awards at nyc.gov/culture. #NYCulture

In celebration of Black History Month, Creative Art Works is looking back on our work with senior residents of Randolph Houses on West 114th Street in collaboration with West Harlem Group Assistance. The team of 14 Youth Apprentices (YAs), consisting of both Randolph House residents themselves and students from Innovations Diploma Plus High School, were tasked to create an oral history project centering the rich history of West Harlem. Through interviews, photography, and storytelling, the YAs preserved the rich history of the neighborhood, and celebrated the resilience, culture, and contributions of the Black community. Enjoy these photos taken by the YAs featuring Rosa, Robertus, and Katherine, Randolph House residents. • Shoutout to Norberto Brice?o @norbertobriceno for this great video explainer of the art that surrounds the @uptowngrandcentral community plaza: The mural “Harlem Sunrise” was painted by #CAW Youth Apprentices under the guidance of Teaching Artist GERA Luz and Uptown Grand Central in 2015. The design of the mural echoes the artwork “Harlem Encore” on the viaduct above 125th Street, which was created byTerry Adkins and commissioned by the MTA in 1999.

  • https://lnkd.in/e2VefPs2 On January 27, 2025, CAW Executive Director Karen Jolicoeur testified to the NY City Council Committee on Cultural Affairs, Libraries and International Intergroup Relations about the importance of creative #workforcedevelopment programs for #NYC youth. CAW's public art youth employment programs, which provide apprenticeships in visual and multimedia arts, develop both hard and soft skills critical to academic, professional, and personal success. CAW offers nearly 300 teens and young adults apprenticeships annually in large-scale public art and multimedia projects. Programs develop art and design skills, as well as collaboration, communication, and leadership skills sought by employers. These #internships creates an opportunity for interested youth to access #creative careers. Find out more on our website!
