Exciting news! We will be selling art for the first time ever at The Village’s Main Street Fest on December 7 from 5-8 PM. A couple of our artists will have several paintings available for sale and will be at the booth with me (Hunter) for part of the event. I will be manning the booth but have invited them to come spend as much or as little time as they’d like (and shop around, too)! The event is located at the same address Creation Studio is located – 5677 Village Glen Dr. Dallas TX 75206 In addition to us, there will be 25+ other vendors with booths at the market. There will also be Pictures with Santa, Air Dry Clay Ornaments & Letters to Santa, Christmas Movies on the Glen Lawn with complimentary cotton candy, a Motorized Train running from Canopy Park to Southwestern, Pop-Up Food Tent in the Square, a Saxophone Player, a DJ at Buzz&Bustle, and Live Music at the Village’s Country Club featuring an afterparty there as well. That said, come for Creation Studio, stay for all the other amazing offerings! It will be a festive event AND a place you can get holiday shopping done.

Last week marked the end of our class at?Highland Park United Methodist Church's Belong Disability Ministry! We painted, we drew, we made fiber sculptures inspired by Judith Scott, and we created corn out of pipe cleaners and beads! It’s been such a treat to get involved at Belong????

Today, we are sharing art by Creative Growth's Monica Valentine! Monica has practiced at Creative Growth since 2012. From Creative Growth's website: Monica Valentine’s primary practice takes the form of optically charged sculptures composed of foam shapes that are densely covered with beads and sequins. Valentine is blind and wears prosthetic eyes, having lost her sight at birth. Working with great dexterity, Valentine threads sequins and seed beads onto thin pins, then uses her hands to feel along the foam in order to find their placement. The process is rhythmic and calculated. Valentine’s exacting standards of bead size and color, foam shape and material, result in forms that are whole and perfect in their being. Visually rich and luminous, her sculptures are either monochromatic (red is her favorite color), or blooming with multiple hues across the visual plane as Valentine creates layers by juxtaposing the colors of sequins and beads. Introduced by touch to a Saori loom by Studio Instructor Anne Meade Paden, Valentine weaves in monochromatic yarns until the piece outgrows the loom. Working exclusively in red, orange, green, or blue, her long textiles have a distinctive looped fringe on the left side that forms as she pulls the shuttle out to feel the yarn’s tension before starting the next row. Valentine’s long singular weavings have been installed individually, or made into clothing: ponchos, dresses, and wraps, and are often adorned with bike reflectors.

Today, we wanted to share a piece by Adam Richards, an artist at North Pole Studio! It's so inspiring to peruse the work of each artist at North Pole (and other studios like it), and think about the art that will soon be created at Creation Studio starting in just two months. From North Pole Studio's website: Adam Richards is a careful, and detail-oriented artist. Adam’s work is made up of repeated symbols, characters and numbers which together, construct a complex patterned web. Most of Adam’s symbolism is unknown, however all have significant personal meaning. Self portraits and treasured personal items such as a pin, baseball, and pooh bear can be found throughout his work.
