Art Work is Economic Work. In this clip, Tiara Amar - Director Advocacy & Fellows: Whippoorwill Arts, shares about Whippoorwill Arts’ Music aLive programs, which provides guaranteed paid gigs for Bay Area musicians. “... it enables them to engage in their creative work. So finally they have time to compose, they have time to practice, which they might not have if they're always performing.” Where Art Meets Impact is produced in collaboration with Voices of the Community and the Bay Area Video Coalition. This series brings you highlights from our 2nd annual CA Arts & Culture Summit: Art Work is Real Work. In Episode 4, “Discover the Future of Creative Work,” Nurit Siegel Smith, Executive Director at Music Forward Foundation, leads a panel on Creative Conditions with Tiara Amar - Director Advocacy & Fellows: Whipporwill Arts; Nicole Hendrix - Co-Founder: BRIC Foundation & Concept Art Association; Marcus Mitchell - Public Art Administrator: City of West Hollywood; and Jamie Hand, Dir. Research shows that teaching students through their own cultural and experiential filters improves their academic achievement. And not only that; arts education can provide a space for students to explore their cultural heritage, learn about the histories of their fellow classmates and communities and find ways to celebrate their own unique selves. Having well-rounded arts education programming in ALL schools for ALL students in California helps create communities of understanding across this state. And consequently, our students become world citizens.

??The GAAP Fellowship application is now open. GAAP is a cohort-based fellowship program for artist advocates, 18 years or older, who live or work in Oakland or San Francisco. Artist Advocates include diverse artists, culture bearers, and creative workers with a dedicated and committed artistic or cultural practice who directly engage in advocacy and policy development to advance the holistic well-being of the field. Each artist advocate will identify a change they want to make happen and be supported to develop an advocacy plan to enact that change. ??Join us for an informational webinar on Friday, October 4 at 12:00 PM to gain an in-depth understanding of the program and ask any questions you have about GAAP and the application process! ??Applications will open from October 1-14, 2024. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/g5VHNm8f ?
