One in eight people in the United States aged 12 years or older has hearing loss in both ears, with varied root causes. Creare is working with Purdue University to build and test a new research platform that is completely open and accessible to anyone to conduct research studies that will spur innovation in the development of treatments and interventions for hearing loss.

We were so honored to have such a great crowd at the Grand Opening of the Purdue University Accessible Precision Audiology Research Center (APARC), located at the 16 Tech Innovation District in Indianapolis. APARC is dedicated to reducing the burdens of untreated hearing loss for the citizens of Indiana (and beyond) by providing standardized hearing assessments for diverse community members, as well as in-person and online resources for those looking for expert information about the complex world of hearing healthcare, especially in underserved communities. Our collaborations with Creare LLC to develop an open-source hearing platform (openhearing.org) based on their Tympan device (are critical to efforts to make standardized hearing testing more accessible, especially in rural farming communities within Indiana and at the nearby Indianapolis Motor Speedway that gets pretty loud. Thanks to Matt Uekermann from Creare LLC for visiting and providing demos of audiometry on the Tympan during our opening! Special thanks to our distinguished speakers and guests Karen Plaut, Aaron Bowman, Emily Krueger, David Umulis, Lucy Flesch who helped to make this event such a wonderful celebration. Thanks to our amazing collaborative team of faculty and staff: Alexandra Hustedt-Mai, Jennifer Simpson, Maureen Shader, Joshua Alexander from SLHS, Ed Bartlett from BIO and BME, Ananth Grama from Computer Science, and Noori Kim from Engineering Technology. And special thanks to all our students: Samantha Hauser, Andrew Sivaprakasam, Elizabeth Jensen, Isabella Huddleston, Annika Schenkel, Maggie Ziko.?Thanks for the support from Purdue's Office of Research and the Provost's Office, which builds on initial support from the Purdue Institute for Integrative Neuroscience, and their Grand Challenges in Neuroscience program, which Chris Rochet led as PIIN's Director. Thanks also to Kaethe Beck for help with APARC in general and with the Grand Opening. We are really excited about the potential for collaborations with Purdue’s new campus in Indianapolis, with companies here in Indy, and to benefit from and to have an impact on the wonderful diverse local communities here. Please reach out to [email protected] for more information or to schedule a comprehensive hearing test. aparc.research.purdue.edu/

Creare’s Space Technology Launched on L3Harris Missile Tracking Satellites Five missile defense satellites with cryogenic cooling systems driven by Creare LLC’s Miniature Cryocooler Controller Electronics for Tactical Space (MCCE-TS) successfully launched from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Florida. Originally developed in 2017 for NASA under the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program with our partners from West Coast Solutions (WCS), the MCCE-TS optimally balances cost and mission reliability, enabling critical space missions at affordable costs. The cryogenic cooling systems will undergo two years of on-orbit operations during the life of the programs. L3Harris Technologies designed and built the satellites as part of the Missile Defense Agency’s (MDA) Hypersonic and Ballistic Tracking Space Sensor (HBTSS) program and the Space Development Agency’s (SDA) Tranche 0 (T0) Tracking Layer program. MDA’s HBTSS satellite is an on-orbit prototype demonstration, providing fire control quality data able to detect, track, and target hypersonic, ballistic, and other advanced missiles. The other four infrared satellites complete SDA’s T0 program within their Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture (PWSA) at Low Earth Orbit, which will demonstrate missile warning, tracking, and targeting of advanced threats such as hypersonic missiles. Creare is honored to be part of these critical missions and a trusted supplier to L3Harris. Creare LLC is a small business with expertise in advanced research/development and low- to medium-volume production of specialized space hardware.?We have been a leading developer of cryogenic components, cryogenic systems and cryocoolers for space for over 30 years.?The company was founded in 1961 with its main site in Hanover, New Hampshire.
