CRDF Global successfully supported a training event titled: Cyber Bastion: Enhancing Cybersecurity and the ICT Environment in the Western Balkans in Skopje, North Macedonia on November 26-27, 2024. This event gathered 50 professionals from North Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina involved in safeguarding critical infrastructure and sensitive information, technical staff from critical industries, banking sector personnel, IT professionals, cybersecurity experts, CISOs, CERT/CSIRT and SOC members. The training featured the "Cyber Bastion" game model, designed by the Fundacja Bezpieczna Cyberprzestrzeń (Cybersecurity Foundation) of Warsaw, creating a simulated, resilient ICT environment and security system designed to train participants in effective responses to various cyber threats. The game allowed players to practice cyber-attacks in real-life situations. The CRDF Global team included Zuzanna Grüner, Senior Project Officer, and Conor Wade, Project Associate. The training, supported by the U.S. Department of State and Dr. Metodi Hadji-Janev, cybersecurity expert from North Macedonia, successfully enhanced collaboration and knowledge sharing among the participants, and it will continue to positively impact the mission of CRDF Global in Europe and the Western Balkans region at large.

On October 29-30, 2024, CRDF Global, with generous support from Global Affairs Canada | Affaires mondiales Canada (GAC), hosted the Capstone Workshop for the Building Networks Among Women in Nuclear Security and Nonproliferation Fellowship in Vienna, Austria. This two-day event marked the culmination of an impactful eight-month fellowship program designed to empower women in the nuclear security and nonproliferation sectors. Fellows from Chile, India, Jordan, Kenya, Nigeria, and Pakistan presented the outcomes of their mini-grant projects, each aimed at advancing women’s roles in the nuclear field. Following the fellows’ presentations, panelists from World Institute for Nuclear Security (WINS) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) shared experiences and insights. On the second day of the workshop, fellows participated in a hands-on experience at the IAEA’s Nuclear Laboratories at Seibersdorf, Austria. They toured the newly established Nuclear Security Training and Demonstration Centre and learned about the work of IAEA safeguards inspectors. The day concluded with a networking reception at the Vienna International Center, where fellows connected with professionals from the IAEA, Marie Sk?odowska-Curie and Lise Meitner Fellows, and other representatives in the nuclear security field. On the last day of #WAAW and #USAAW24, check out our video for glimpses of our #AMR awareness day on the campus of Jordan University of Science and Technology. CRDF Global collaborated with the Center of Excellence for Innovative Projects at JUST to provide educational Centers for Disease Control and Prevention materials and videos on the appropriate use of antibiotics and importance of infection prevention and control (#IPC) measures and held fruitful discussions with university students. The team also met with PharmD. Batool Ali Mohamad Shhabat, Lecturer in Clinical Pharmacy at the JUST, Clinical Pharmacist at King Abdullah University Hospital (KAUH), Board-Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) and PhD candidate, who stressed the importance of multi-sectoral collaboration, including with the pharmaceutical sector, adding AMR modules in education curricula, and provided advice for the public on responsible use of antibiotics. CRDF Global recently had the honor of welcoming seven participants from the Near East and North Africa to the United States on the Rule of Law and the U.S. Judicial System International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP). Throughout their three weeks in the United States, these participants traveled to Washington, DC; El Paso, Texas; Pierre and Rapid City, South Dakota; and New York City, New York. They had the opportunity to speak with legal professionals at all levels, witness several trials, and learn more about immigration and refugee law, the intersection of federal, state, local and tribal legal systems, and incarceration alternatives, amongst many other subjects.
