"Inclusive Comedy Show Expands Options for Adults with Autism: Comedian Joshua Meyrowitz performed on Sept. 11 at the Laugh Factory in Los Angeles during a comedy show that aimed to be inclusive for neurodivergent people. Meyrowitz, who identifies as autistic, received an enthusiastic response from the crowd when he introduced himself as “your fellow autistic.” He mentioned that one of the challenges for autistic individuals is relating to others, and as a stand-up comic, that ability is essential. The adjustments made for the show were minor but impactful: there was a designated "chill-out space" for anyone needing a break, the volume of the music inside was lowered, and there were no sudden, noisy changes in music between acts. Additionally, the comedians were informed to be understanding if someone in the audience needed to step out or if there were unexpected interruptions. The article highlights the availability of activities and programs tailored for the neurodivergent community, providing them with the opportunity to attend a comedy show that caters specifically to their needs. Young Adult Circle: The Friendship Circle is today’s fastest growing organization for children with special needs. With over 79 locations worldwide, the Friendship Circle has cultivated friendships between 7,000 special children and close to 11,000 teen volunteers. The Friendship Circle’s unique approach brings together teenage volunteers and children with special needs for hours of fun and friendship. These shared experiences empower the children, our special friends, while enriching the lives of everyone involved. Young adult volunteers and young adults with special needs come together twice a month to form a social group of friends in a non- judgmental and accepting environment, while having a great time and enhancing their social skills along the way!
