When it’s time to replace your VTAC Units keep CRAIN on the BRAIN!??

What is the 2025 HVAC Refrigerant Transition? Due to a government mandated refrigerant regulation by the Environmental Protection Agency, 2024 will see a phase-out of current refrigerants like R-410A, with newer, more eco-friendly options like R-454B and R-32 taking their place in 2025. This is part of a global effort to reduce the environmental impact of refrigerants that contribute to global warming and ozone depletion, reducing the carbon footprint of the HVAC industry. Beginning January 1, 2025 manufacturers will begin using alternative refrigerants like R-454B and R-32, which have a lower Global Warming Potential (GWP) and are said to be more environmentally friendly. R-454B is classified as a mildly flammable refrigerant (A2L). While this might seem like a concern, manufacturers have developed safe system designs and installation protocols to mitigate any risks associated with this new classification. One of the key considerations in deciding whether to buy a new VTAC or PTAC system before the 2025 refrigerant changes is cost.?While it’s difficult to predict exact costs, we are hearing that systems using R-454B and other new refrigerants will be more expensive than current models. Additionally, installation costs could go up as new training and standards may be required for technicians to handle the newer systems. Another consideration would be access to parts and service. If you replace your HVAC system now with one that uses R-410A, you’ll likely have easier access to parts and service. Chief Engineers are still familiar with these systems, and replacement parts are readily available. It should be noted that R-410A refrigerant will still remain available to service these systems in the coming years. Another consideration of note would be availability. It will take some time for manufacturers to build their inventory in the new Year, you may have to wait 12-14 weeks for your units to become available after placing your order.
