We finance, connect and reimagine data to save lives

关于我们

The Complex Risk Analytics Fund, short CRAF’d, is new multilateral financing instrument to foster an open data ecosystem that supports all stakeholders in crisis anticipation, prevention and response. Inspired by the Secretary-General’s Data Strategy, CRAF'd is the result of a joint design process championed by Germany, the Netherlands, the United States, and the United Nations family, as well as other partners across the globe. With sustainable and scalable financing, CRAF'd will foster an ecosystem that expands shared capabilities for unlocking more power from data for insight, impact, and integrity in crisis action. Administered by the UN Multi-Partner Trust Fund Office, CRAF'd fully operational in early 2022. The fund's acronym CRAF'd (pronounce k-r-a-a-f-t) signifies the shared commitment to invest in excellence in the use of data for the common good.

  • #WeekendRead Data is the navigation system for humanitarian action. It helps partners to reach those who need it most, when they need it most. But funding shortages could put this navigation system at risk. The OCHA Centre for Humanitarian Data just released its brand-new report on the state of the open humanitarian data, highlighting both progress and urgent challenges. Here are some key takeaways: ? More demand for open data: HDX data downloads rose 30% in 2024, reaching 3.5 million. ?Data at risk: Critical crisis datasets face growing threats to their availability. ? Funding gaps: Without sustainable financing, hard-won progress in data coverage will be lost. ? The power of APIs: Investing in standardization and data-sharing infrastructure is key to making crisis data more accessible and impactful. The way forward? A well-financed, connected, and sustainable crisis data ecosystem that lowers costs, strengthens governance, and delivers smarter insights. ?? The link to the full report is in the comments! • #OECDFragility: To understand fragility better, we must look beyond labels and focus on what truly drives risk and resilience. The OECD Multidimensional Fragility Framework reveals that fragility isn’t just about conflict or instability — it’s shaped by economic inequality, environmental pressures, political challenges, and even social divides. The framework shows that: ?? 61 contexts are facing high or extreme fragility, home to 2.1 billion people and 72% of the world’s extreme poor. ?? Fragility exists on a spectrum, meaning even stable systems can experience vulnerabilities. ?? By analyzing fragility through six dimensions we can design smarter strategies that improve crisis action and build resilience. CRAF’d and its partners proudly supported the recent OECD Forum on Development, Peace, and Stability in Paris, where we co-hosted a session on next-generation data analytics for better crisis action. Key takeaway: We must safeguard the navigation system that enables partners to reach people in fragile and crisis-affected settings earlier, faster, and in a more targeted and dignified way. Stay tuned for more! Learn more about the data-driven solutions link to the report is in the comments.

  • #WeekendDataRead: Data is our responsibility — are we protecting the people behind the numbers? Data is often overlooked in the rush to deliver support, but mishandling it can put vulnerable people at risk. Humanitarian responders handle names, locations, medical histories, and protection needs every day. But what happens when that data is stored insecurely — or shared without safeguards? Even the most well-intentioned responders can put vulnerable communities at risk without realizing it. The OCHA Centre for Humanitarian Data Data Responsibility Guidelines are essential. They provide practical steps to ensure your data is managed safely, ethically, and effectively — minimizing harm while maximizing impact. ??? Your data decisions matter. Recent data from the?World Food Programme (WFP)?reveals that in just one country, over?4.4 million people?are projected to face crisis levels of hunger by April 2025. The question is:?What will we do with that knowledge? The World Food Programme uses data insights from sources such as the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC),?FAO,?UNICEF, and?the OCHA Centre for Humanitarian Data to assess risks and inform action. Can these insights guide proactive solutions? Learn more in the comments.
