The first astronaut with a disability is ready for space. ?? John McFall had his right leg amputated at 19 after a motorcycle accident. He is a surgeon and former Paralympic sprinter. Now, he has been cleared for a mission to the International Space Station. “This isn’t about me. This is way bigger than that because this is a cultural shift. This is something that has not been done before.” #Congratulations, John. ??

Join us in celebrating our 2024 Annual Report. ?? Just a couple of years ago, we weren’t making these. Then, we decided to give it a try. It quickly became the most-viewed item on our website and has stayed that way ever since. Our goal was to craft something different: an annual report that wasn’t overloaded with text, but instead visually captured the real impact of our community. Let us know what you think! ??

He has one arm and has won three Super Bowls. ?? Meet Porter Ellett. The Kansas City Chiefs’ assistant running backs coach. Porter amputated his right arm when he was 16 after a motorcycle accident. Porter excelled in sports. Then, a chance meeting with Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, opened the door to the NFL. In 2017, Porter joined the Chiefs as a personal assistant. In 2022, he was promoted to the assistant running backs coach. ?? Porter also shares a special bond with Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, helping him warm up before every game. Yesterday, he just coached in his fifth #SuperBowl.

Disability should be a conversation at every State House. More than a dozen Rhode Islanders lawmakers joined us to hear directly from advocates about the top disability priorities in our state. Thanks to the dedication of advocates, Rhode Island has made critical Medicaid investments in recent years. Now, we’re working hard to ensure commitment continues. So grateful to be a part of this community. ??

One company could change the way thousands of people fly. ?? Delta Airlines is exploring a design that would allow people to fly in their wheelchairs. The idea looks to solve an ongoing problem: Every year 10,000+ wheelchairs are damaged during travel. The FAA is expected to determine the feasibility of wheelchairs on planes later this year.

Join us in celebrating our 40th anniversary! ?? An organization goes through a lot of change in four decades. For us, that meant a new name and a couple logos along with many internal changes. Yet through it all, we have been a leader in Rhode Island’s disability community since 1985. When Back to the Future was the #1 movie and gas was under a dollar. ??? Today we stand stronger than ever with 35 incredible members supporting more than 20,000 people. Join us as we take a look back through the years and reveal a special edition logo (last picture)! ??
