Monday Money Beat - Incorporating economic profit (EP) - revenue minus not just operating and administrative costs, but also the cost of capital needed to produce that revenue is an important tool in today's business interest rate climate for decision making. "While many executives and investors were thrown by last year’s interest rate increases, the cost of capital needn’t be a threat. Companies that integrate the cost of capital into their strategy and planning reap real benefits. When something is cheap, people waste it. With the cost of capital back to normal levels, it’s simply irresponsible not to make it a management discipline that changes the way you do business. To do that, executives need to rediscover the concept of economic profit (EP) — that is, revenue minus not just operating and administrative costs, but also the cost of the capital needed to produce that revenue. The authors have found that executive teams that bring the disciplines of the capital market inside a corporation deliver shareholder returns more than 50% above their industry peer indexes. CPM|Crown is proud to have supplied the preparation and extraction equipment and complete processes for two brand new soybean processing plants: Platinum Crush LLC in Alta, Iowa and Norfolk Crush LLC in Norfolk, Nebraska. Each year, these plants will process a combined 77 million bushels of soybeans and produce 1.6 million tons of soybean meal, 900 million pounds of soybean oil and 154,000 tons of soybean hulls. CPM|Crown was chosen to be part of these projects because we provide the robust and efficient oilseed preparation and extraction equipment and processes needed to handle their massive volumes. Our ability to provide optimal solvent recovery will enable these plants to operate more economically and sustainably. These new plants will positively impact the agricultural communities in which they operate, help meet growing local and global demand for protein, and support the expanding renewable fuels industry.
